My Story

Hello Everyone! Another quick week filled with zone conferences, driving, exchanges, and more driving. It was an eventful week filled with many miracles and blessings. To the highlights of the week!
Bogo:
This week we got to have exchanges with the zone leaders in Bogo. We had zone conference in Toledo on Wednesday. We gave a little workshop and then made our way to Bogo in the afternoon with the Clarks. We made it to there apartment in the evening time. After which, we realized the Bantayan elders would also being staying the night so we had 10 elders there. To make it better, the apartment decided to not have water that night. So that lead to some fun times with not having water, so toilets don't flush, and no water to fill up the bucket. Some of the elders decided to make their way to a neighbours house and use some of their water from there tank. So they had a nice shower with there clothes on, at 9:00 in the jungle. It was a great night with no electric fun, sleeping on the ground, and enjoying the heat. #Memories were made.

Hello Everyone! Another good week here in the mission. We had the first baptism in this area for over a year. We got a lot more progressing people so it's going to be awesome to keep grinding here. Anyways to the highlights of the week!
Zone Conference:
This week we went to Talisay for Zone Conference. We had a joint zone conference for Talisay and Argao zones. We gave a brief workshop with a few practice teaching scenarios. After which, we then started exchanges with the ZLs in Talisay zone. It was fun to reunite with Elder Clark for the day. We had exchanges back in my trainee days so it was fun to see the amount of growth we've had in about a year. We workes for the day and had some good finds/teaching appointments.
Alizeh Faith:
This week we had the Baptism of Alizeh. She has been coming to church for a while now and was finally able to get Baptized. It was fun to see her growth/desire over the past few weeks grow. Her middle name is Faith which is perfect for her situation. She is the only one in her household who makes the trip to Church every week. It will be fun to see her continue to progress in the church and see her testimony grow.
Spiritual Thought:
This week I have been focusing my studies on the Attributes of a successful Missionary. I was able to learn about a new document/article called the 4th Missionary (Thanks E. Clark). One of the things I would like to share is about the Principle of Consecration. It talked about giving our will and heart to the Lord. "This way, the Lord's way, is in the end, easier. It is easier to give yourself to Him, to surrender your will
to His, than it is to fight the fight within. It is easier to give yourself to Him, than it is to wrestle in your heart and soul between what you want and what the Lord wants, between the natural man and your divine nature." Ultimately the Lord has a divine plan for each and everyone of us. He has a plan, do we choose to submit ourselves to his plan? Do we choose to follow our own understanding or submit to his plan. When we understand his plan will always be better, and consecrate our time, the Lord will pour out blessings upon us. We will find true joy and continue to progress along the Lords path. Till next week...

Hello Everyone! Had another fast week here in the mission. We had transfer calls and me and my companion will be staying together for another cycle. It is going to be great because we have a lot of progressing people right now. This week we also had MLC and we were able to give a little workshop/practice teaching. Also got to say goodbye to my trainer. He finished his mission and is now home onto the next adventure. Gave a talk in sacrament about the importance of the Book of Mormon and why we need it today.
Don't have too much time right now but wanted to share a poem with you all about missionary work.
I'll Find You My Friend
Author unknown
I was thinking about our friendship, and these are my feelings:
In heaven we were the best of friends.
We did everything together.
One day, a grand council was called in heaven.
We knew it was an important event.
Everyone was there --
Moses, Noah and Jesus Christ.
Father presented a plan,
And we voted for Christ to be our Savior.
After the council, we ran to get in line
to receive our life package.
In the bustle, we were separated.
I received my package and ran to you.
You were sitting under a tree.
We opened our packages,
Mine said I would be born at a time
When the gospel was restored to the earth.
It said that I would have good parents,
And the fullness of the gospel in my home.
I jumped for joy and we hugged each other.
You were so happy for me. Then you read yours.
I saw the tears in your eyes and I asked what was
wrong?
You said that you would also be born when the gospel was restored,
But you would be born in a different place,
And the gospel would not be in your home.
You looked me straight in the eye and said:
FRIEND, FIND ME!
No matter what it takes or the trials you have to endure,
FIND ME,
and bring me the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Well hope you understand that people are waiting for you to find them. We have that great opportunity here on the Earth to have the gospel of Jesus Christ. Now are we going to just keep it for ourselves or find our friends waitint for us. We can do this because the Lord is on our team!

Hello Everyone! Another fast week here on the mission. My companion and I have been trying to grind it out the past week to keep our IPs going. We had a lot of miracles this week and saw lots of good progress in our area. To the highlights-
Area update:
This week we worked hard and did our best to find, teach, and invite all those who would listen. It turned out pretty well because we got 11 of those people to come to church. It was definitely a miracle and the work is progressing here in the city. I have definitely been able to feel and see the help of the Lord here in the city. We also have been back on the physical grind because there is no flat ground in our area. It is pretty fun, but I think we are getting faster at walking up and down mountains all day. It is well worth it because our IPs are keeping commitments! Thank you for the names you prayed for last week. Please continue!
Spiritual:
What is the difference between service and a calling? Whether you have a calling or not, we are all called to serve. We need service in the church and throughout the world. Service is a Christlike attribute because you have the opportunity to help someone without reward. So I invite you all to serve a little more. Think about those around you and help someone out. Mosiah 2:17
Randoms:
This week we had a few more random events. We had the opportunity to go to a few different parts of the island. We made transfers (those here in the mission, you will find out soon enough). We also had barbecue chicken blood. You really can eat every part of a chicken here in the Philippines. Had some more hiking days with Elder Nidoy, and extended a few more baptismal dates. Overall, everything is going good! Thanks for your emails and I will get back to you as best as I can!

Hello Everyone! Another crazy week here in the mission. It went by really fast full of many unexpected surprises. This week we had the opportunity to hold two multi-zone conferences for the mission. Had some unexpected travelling to different parts of the island again. And were able to still get some good teachings in with our IP'S. Anyways to the highlights of the week!
Expect the Unexpected:
This week, we focused on helping get everything ready for zone conference. Helping with formatting, programs, workshops, and logistics of getting everyone to the city. So we had lots of planning to do. We then get curve balls throughout the week that definitely change the plans from our weekly planning haha but sometimes you just gotta go with the flow. The new phrase this week has mainly been, "Expect the unexpected" because really that has how this week has been.
IPs:
This week we have really been trying to maximise our time. We have been working really hard to get our area moving again. This week we have had some great lessons with many different people. We have been able to share many lessons about the Restoration. I love teaching this lesson because it is so foundational to our church. The best thing about it, is it's true! It doesn't matter how crazy it sounds because we know it is true. And through it, we have the opportunity to make saving ordinances and enter into a covenant relationship. We deepen our discipleship as we share this truth with others. These friends also came to church for the first time. It was awesome to see them make the sacrifice to get there with their little kids, but they made it. The Lord's work truly goes on!
Well, overall another good week here in the mission. Things keep getting more crazy but along the way your reliance on the Lord becomes more centered. You understand the principle of Faith and that Jesus Christ really is our strength. We are hoping to extend Baptisms this week so pray for the Bertulfo family, Loyola family, Kiamko family, Caramba family, and Ladrillo family.

Hello Everyone! This week was another crazy week. Lot's of things happened and made it a real busy one. This week the Fernandez's went home and we got new mission Leaders. So back to the title of the email. My companion and I have both not yet trained so the joke is we both got our first trainee, who happens to be the mission President. So we are helping a lot with the mission standards, focuses, goals, and plans for our mission. Anyways to the highlights of the week!
Airport Run:
This week consisted of going to the airport twice. Once to pick up the Clarke's and the second was to drop off President and Sister Fernandez. It was a crazy few days of transition. We were able to have a nice few meetings with President Clarke to try and help him catch up on the mission rules/work/culture/etc... We were able to make a road trip to an area which allowed us a nice few hours of conversation. I think that President and Sister Clarke are going to be great here in Cebu. We also have Zone Conference this week so they will be able to meet all the missionaries here in Cebu.
Work:
On top of all the new changes, we have still found time to work in our area. We were able to get a full Saturday in this week which helped us get 6 interested friends to church. We also have started to jog in the morning which is a nice start to the day. Overall, I am excited for the new things ahead. The work will progress no matter because the Lord is 100% in charge. We have the great opportunity to be the instrument in helping those find the truth.
Thanks for all of your support and love! Also had the opportunity to see a few friends this week. Shoutout Ethan Ploeger and the Rasmussen's! Hope all is well with everyone else and stay happy!

Hello Everyone! What another crazy week here in the mission. Sorry for the late email but ran out of time as usual. But anyways to the highlights of the week-
Week Update:
This week we ended up making our way down to the south end of the island to do exchanges with the Zone Leaders. I was able to be comps with Elder Miller as we did exchanges for the day. Shoutout batch 821 gihapon. We had a solid day of exchanges and had some good lessons. We then made it back to the city the next day. We got stuck in some major traffic because of the rain and flooding. So that got us getting back around 7:30ish that night. We then went to the office for a little bit and made our way home around 9. Well fast forward to 2:00 am in the morning, we got a phone call from some ZLs. There was an emergency that required us to go pick up a missionary from that zone. We hurry and grabbed the keys and are tags and rushed to the missionaries appartment. We got him to the hospital around 3 and were there until 7:00 that night. So a nice 14 hour day in the hospital. Let's just say a crazy couple of days but many miracles filled within. So that was a pretty fun few days.
Area:
We then were able to work for two days in our area. It was super nice to get to finally work a few days in our assigned area after all of these exchanges. We were able to put our Friend on baptismal date for August 10th and she came to church which is awesome. We also are planning on extending to a few more people this upcoming week so hopefully we should have some baptisms towards the end of this cycle. Our area is also super awesome. It is the smallest area I've ever had but basically a ton of houses put into the mountain. So we got stairs all day to climb when we work there. We can also walk around the whole area twice in one day so it keeps it exciting to talk to people as they come and go.
Spiritual Thought:
This week I have been studying in the Doctrine and Covenants. I was reading in section 19 with an emphasis on commandments and repentance. I found a common theme of the importance of Repentance. The word Repentance can be found many times in this one section. It is emphasised so much which is an awesome reminder that we need to repent every day. We all make mistakes, even the small ones that may seem insignificant. But one thing this chapter emphasises is putting our trust in Jesus Christ. One way we can do this is by trusting him that he is our savior and Redeemer. Meaning that through him we can be made whole and be forgiven for our sins. So as we repent, it is an action of putting trust in Jesus Christ as we become whole through him.
Anyways thanks for all the Birthday wishes this week. And I appreciate all your support!
July 14, 2025
Well another week down and a little bit different than previous. This week was filled with early mornings and just going with the flow of things. Things are a little more crazy and the days go by really fast. But we are still going just with fewer hours of sleep. But to the highlights of the week!
Explore the Island:
This week we got to have a few exchanges in different parts of the island. I officially have been to every zone after this week. We got to start the week in Talisay and have an exchange there with the ZL'S. We then came back the next night getting back just in time to pack for our next trip. We then left at 6:00 to Bogo the next morning which is the farthest North Point of the Island. We were there for two nights and three days for there District Conference. We got to do exchanges there with the ZL'S. It was fun to spend a few nights there with my trainer. But we had a good conference and got to do some ministering with one of the area 70s here in the Philippines.
Learning:
This week has been filled with lots of learning experiences. Opportunities to grow, opportunities to choose the harder right over the easy wrong, opportunities to go outside of the comfort zone, and so forth. But through it all I know that learning is a process. It takes different time for everyone to learn different things. But the best way to learn is through your own experiences. Often times we see others and there successes. We see what appears to be all great but forget about the process in which they got there. What we don't see is that long steep road with obstacles. A road that they walked and endured to get to that destination. But the way to get there is if you walk it. So to learn you need to experience challenges, change, and new things. Growth is going to happen in these times allowing you to learn. Learn from the obstacles and get stronger for the next hill. Life is an opportunity to learn and ultimately become. So I invite you to continue along your personal road. Remember the obstacles you overcame and continue on. Anyways running out of time but thanks for all your support.

Hello Everyone! Wow what a crazy week. So much has happened this week. I ended up getting transferred to the city. It is pretty different here in the city but I think it will be a cool change. This place is very different than the province but another opportunity to learn new things from different people. But anyways to the highlights of the week!
Exchanges:
This week we got to do exchanges with the ZL'S in Toledo. Elder Wolford and I were rockin it back from the good old Adam's district in the MTC. Shout out to the OG district. We had a solid day and had some simple teachings which were good. It was the day after transfer calls so I lead the area because Elder Wolford is new to Dumlog.
First Sunday:
Had the first sunday in the city. We had a fast and Testimony meeting which is always great. I got to bear my testimony and introduce myself to the ward. We also had the opportunity to work with the HXP group of kids. It was pretty fun to see the shock on their faces of just everything. Between the language and all the other amazing parts of the Philippines. It reminded me a little bit of how far I've come since I first got here in the mission to where I am now. As always I am so grateful for my opportunity to serve others and help them feel of the Love of Christ.
Spiritual Thought:
Alma 26:12
Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever.
The Lord is our strength and our power. I know I could not be doing what I am without his help and I am grateful for him. I am grateful of all the many miracles and blessings we recieve each day here on the mission. I invite you to remember that the Lord is your strength. Rely on him and you shall see the miracles in your lives. Sorry for the shorter email. Running out of time. Till next week-
Hello Everyone! Well we are another week down and it just goes by way too fast. This we had lots to do and it felt like not enough time to accomplish it but we made it work. We had some more baptisms and are already to transfer week. So we'll see what happens but anyways to the highlights of the week-
Exchanges:
This week we had the opportunity to do exchanges with the Bato Elders. This is our kabalay or housemates. I was able to be companions with Elder Dingess. He is from Virginia but is pure pinoy. Was born here in the Philippines and was adopted at 10 to the US. So it was a fun day to work with him and learn more about his story. We had some really spiritual experiences in our lessons and the spirit was so strong. We really had a great day and were able to learn about how to become more effective missionaries. It was a great day filled with many teaching appointments and new finds.
Baptisms:
This transfer we have been able to have 6 which will average out to about 1 per week. One thing I have learned is the Lord is 100% in charge of his work. He is the one directing every step and we as missionaries (because everyone is a missionary even if you have no tag) is just a tool in his mighty workshop. But what is even more awesome is he gives us the opportunity to act as he would. Invite, teach, and help others come unto him. But what we need to do is help his children find a place to feel this difference, and make choices for themselves. So as I reflect this cycle I am grateful for the hand of the Lord in our work here in Dumlog. To see it progress from 0 interested friends coming to church when I first got here, to becoming a fruitful field where others can come unto Christ finding the peace they seek.
Spiritual Thought:
This week I was asked a question that inspired me. The question is, "What is one word that describes the Atonement of Jesus Christ. But the catch is to forget the scriptures and think outside of the box using a word that is not as common." So as I thought about it at first my word was personal. The Atonement is personal. It is for you! Our saviour suffered for you and your pains, sickness, and afflictions. But then as I continued to think of it I got more creative. I tried thinking a little more creative. I then thought of the word oxygen. Well you may ask what does this have to do with the Atonement of Jesus Christ. As I thought about it, the Atonement is like oxygen. Something everyone needs but sometimes forgot how much we need it or that it really is there. Do we remember how much we need the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Do we remember it is always there and will always be. We just need to remember the Atonement is our living breath that brings a new life, a new hope, a new beginning, and an opportunity to become. As we remember the Atonement we will remember that it is how we can find peace in trials, hope in loss, joy in hardship, and trust in those times we feel all is loss. So my question for you this week is what is your word for the Atonement of Jesus Christ?
As always thanks for all your support! Till next week-
https://photos.app.goo.gl/YWtcbTXUp8FVwtBR7
Hello Everyone! This week was pretty solid! We got to go up to Cebu city for a day for an English Connect festival (everyone got to make a song). We also had stake conference this week which was fun to see all the members from my previous area in Toledo zone. Anyways to the highlights of the week-
Exchanges:
Had exchanges with Elder Go-oc this week. It was pretty fun to work with him and get to know him better. One of my favorite parts of exchanges is just getting to know each of the missionaries a little better. Learn about there stories. Everyone has there own personal stories and it is crazy to learn about. I was grateful to get to know him better this week and see how much of a sacrifice he is making for his mission. It was a good day filled with some good teachings and new finds.
President and Sister Fernandez Farewell:
This week all of the missionaries here got to go to the city. We found out last week that our mission leaders would be going home early. It was a shock for most but we were all able to gather for a English Connect festival. Everyone was able to make a song and present it to the mission. We also were then able to hear the remarks of President and Sister Fernandez. I was able to see the impact they have had here in our mission and change it for the good. We have seen lots of success and were able to learn our retention rate for all baptisms is 97%. That number is very well seeing that we are now within the top Baptizing missions in the Philippines. But as always they are very humble and sincere in there remarks. They have been great mission leaders and I am thankful for their suport this first part of my mission.
Spiritual Thought:
Always be grateful! Such a simple thing but often times as humans we forget to look around and see all the many blessings that we witness everyday. The Lord has blessed us with so much. We were teaching one of our interested friends this week. He stated it perfectly about all of the blessings we have. We were teaching him about a few different principles. He began to ask us a few different questions which lead to this- He first asked us if we bought our shoes. We said yes of course. He then asked about our shirts. We said yes again. He then said no, God has provided us with everything. He is the creator of all things, he has given us everything we have, and provided us with all things. As we are sitting in his house with no floor, dirt, mice running around, and a sincere voice of gratitude. He says this shirt is from God, this house is from God, it is not mine, but from our creator above. He acknowledged the many blessings he was recieved. To some they may complain about this, why don't I have more, why don't i have this or that, but they forget to look at the many things right in front of them. So this week, I encourage you to count your many blessings. Even the house full of mice, with no floor, dirt, and gratitude for all the simple things. Anyways thanks for your emails and I'll do my best to get back to you all!
Till next week
June 16, 2025
Hello Everyone! Wow another week down and it is crazy how fast it went. This week we added exchanges in the mix and it just made things go even faster. We had some good moments and some surprises but anyways to the highlights of the week-
Miracles:
This week we have seen many miracles. One thing to remember that miracles never cease and we just need to remember to look for the little tender mercies everyday. So this week we returned to one of our IPs. Brother Hyacinth has been gone for the past 3 weeks. I felt prompted to go to him, even though he was not on the schedule. So we went over to his house and he was back. We then began to teach him and as we began he asked if we could speak Tagalog to him. We said we did not know Tagalog and would not understand if he spoke. So we went on with the lesson with him speaking to us in Tagalog and us speaking to him in Bisaya. So a pretty interesting lesson overall, but we all felt the spirit. Well on Sunday, guess who showed up to church, Brother Hyacinth! It was awesome because he lives in one of the farther areas and came to the full two hours. He even shared in Sunday school which was so awesome as well. So like I said before, miracles never cease.
Endurance:
Something that is talked about a lot in regards to life, sports, and faith. Here in the mission everyday brings a new challenge. It also brings a new opportunity to learn. With this brings opportunities to choose to be humble and meek allowing changes to yourself. Making you become better and refined version of yourself. But what endurance really means is to find joy in these moments. We are meant to find joy. Yes it may be hard or challenging, but these times allow us to endure with patience and happiness. To remember that we are becoming who our Father in Heaven has in store for us to become. So I invite all of you to keep pressing on. To remember that endurance does not mean painful suffering rather joyful refinement. So continue to be joyfully refined and watch yourself become!
Sorry for the late email today. We've been out of water for the past 3 days so last night was a little more hectic than usual. As always thanks for your love and support!

Hello Everyone! Yes running out of ideas for titles to mission emails but we had another great week with some more baptisms. This week we got to do exchanges with the APs again and it was fun to learn from Elder Bunagan. We had a good time and it was nice to ride around in a car for a little bit. It was pretty fun and I learned a lot about likening the scriptures to our teachings. My Comp was Elder Bunagan who is very knowledgeable when it comes to scriptures which is something I hope to continue to develop. But we had some good teachings and found some new people as well.
Baptisms: Had 3 more Baptisms this week which was awesome. It's always great seeing more people make the first step on the Covenant path and knowing how much the gospel will help them in their lives ahead.
Spiritual Thought:
Running out of time to right my email so its going to be a short one but remember the Lord has a plan for you. When you understand that everything that happens for you in this life is to make you become better. It's not going to be easy, it never was meant to be easy, but you choose that when you came to this Earth. You followed God's plan and everyday have the opportunity to show your faith in him by trusting what's ahead for you. Keep going, and know it will all be worth it in the end. When it gets hard, remember your savior Jesus Chirst. He has you and will always know what you're going through. Keep showing your faith through the small and simple things! Love you all-

Hello Everyone! Hope you all had a great week! This week went by super fast filled with activities of all sorts of missionary work. We had many successes filled with a rewarding Sunday. But to the highlights of the week-
Zone Conference:
This week we had zone conference. It was a good reminder all about why we are here as missionaries. Remembering the sacrifices we made, remembering the desires we had as we recieved our call, and remembering our purpose as a missionary. We also were able to have a zone council meeting. We discussed as a zone what we needed to improve and how to set effective goals and plans to achieve them. Overall, it went well and we are hoping to see an improvement over the next few weeks.
Lead by example:
One thing that I have always thought of when it comes to leadership is leading by example. There is no better way than to walk the walk (meaning do what you say and just get it done). So as we had a zone council earlier this week we were able to talk about how to accomplish our Baptismal goals through effective planning. One thing we did this week was that. Planned efficiently and effectively to reach our goals. Which ultimately lead us to having a baptism, getting 12 new friends to church, and setting two more people on date for baptism next week. So as we relate this to life, sometimes the best way to lead is just by setting an example. Do what is right, be hard working, trust in the lord, and everything else will fall into play in the Lord's timing. Anyways hope you all had a great week! Thanks for all the emails and I'll do my best to get back to you all! Till next week-

Wow, what a week! We had transfers this week and I am staying here in Dumlog for another cycle. I got assigned with Elder Rees who is from Draper, Utah so I'll be training him to be a ZL. It was a crazy week filled with miracles and lots of insights.
MLC:
This week we had mission leadership council up in the city. We were able to start with a temple session which is always the best. I really felt the spirit there and it was such a great way to start the week. We also learned that there was an event going to happen the next day for BYU pathways. And we were told that Patrick Kearon would be coming along with other general authorities. So we were hopeful we might get to see him. Then the next day we began our council meeting. We learned a lot of really good things about accountability, trust, and the power of social conformity. But I will talk about that later in the spiritual thought. So after the morning session, we had to have our lunch in the room because the event was going on in the cultural hall. But I need to go to the bathroom so we slipped out for a little bit. While as we were walking back to the room, we all of a sudden realized Elder Kearon had just entered. Know we were about 15 feet away from him as we were walking back. He began to shake everyones hand. He had not yet noticed us but soon saw us elders. He came over immediately and had us introduce ourselves. He was very sincere and thanked us for our service. He said "Stay Happy". It was pretty awesome and we also got to meet the Presiding Bishop as well. So it was a pretty cool experience that day.
Spiritual Thought:
This week in our MLC, we talked about the concept of social conformity. A social concept referring to the power of influence of those around us. We discussed about how often times here in the mission those around us will follow what others do, meerly because that is just what they do. So for this, there can be two outcomes. Positive social conformity and negative conformity. But the power of it is if you have positive social conformity, the growth will be spontaneous. So as we relate this two our lifes. Our we the ones who influence others for good. Our we willing to make the hard right choice or choose the easy wrong. As we strive to do whats right, those around us will follow. As we continually stand for right, keep our covenants, be obedient, and do our personal best, I know that we will have many blessins poured out upon us. Well, thanks for getting this far in the email and I hope you all have a great week!

Maayong adlawa sa tanan! Hope everyone had a great week! This week was pretty chill, found some new people, taught more, baptized, and will be having transfer calls this week. So we getting ready for a new companion because my comp finished the two years. Peace out to the highlights of the week!
Baptism:
This week we had the baptism of Fatimath Pepito! It was awesome because she was so ready for Baptism. Her family has been taught by the missionaries for a long time and her parents still have concerns about marriage so we decided to proceed with the kids. So we were able to Baptize her and her brother will be Baptized next week. Her mom is very supportive and will hopefully getting married soon so we can continue with her as well. But overall, it was a great day for her!
Another American Joe:
This week we had a lunch appointment with the district. This time we ended up going to the interested friend of the other Elders area. Except this time is was an American interested friend. So it made things a little more interesting. He was very welcoming, and had everything prepared. He says he was a cook for 15 years back in the states so the food was pretty good. Well, a little background on this guy. We has been taught by the missionaries for almost a year know. He comes to church consistently, is welcoming, but does not believe we should worship Jesus Christ. So while we were over there, I began to talk to him and get to know him a little better. While it turns out that that conversation turned into 1 hour discussion from the Restoration to plan of salvation. It was a good conversation but he is still fixed on the idea that we should never worship Jesus Christ. But at the end, I felt impressed to ask him if he believes that he would ever be Baptized in the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His response was "Maybe" so we'll take that for know. But overall, it was a pretty good appointment with a good discussion about the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Spiritual Thought:
This week with my companion going home, it has made me think about all the different circumstances of people. We all come from different backgrounds, different families, different cultures, and different places. But the great thing about the Gospel of Jesus Christ is it is for everyone. Everyone who is open to hearing and accepting the good news will find joy. No matter where you come from the Gospel of Jesus Christ can be for you. And the ultimate blessing is those who are faithful in keeping the Covenants they make will all recieve the same reward. It is a truly amazing blessings because despite the challenges and unfairness of the world we all are able to obtain the same reward in the next life. I think that as I get to share the good news of this message with others here in the Philippines, it is a blessing to see the light on there faces as they learn about the plan of salvation. A new hope for them and there families eternal happiness. While I hope I can continue to share this with the many more people I come in contact with.
Thanks for all your support!
Hello Everyone! Hope you all had a great week! Happy Mother's Day and special shout out to my mom! Thanks for your constant support, encouragement, and love. Hope you have a great day and thanks for your example to me. Continue to share your light with all and thanks for all of the things you do for our family!
This week went by pretty fast as we worked on getting our friends ready for Baptism. We are really trying to get a few Baptisms before the end of the cycle ends but to the highlights of the week!
The day of finding:
So this week we did exchanges with our kabalay and we had a good time. We opened the exchanges with our expectations for the day and what we hoped to learn. One thing that my new comp said was to be time effecient. So thats what we did. We had appointments scheduled for the morning but for the most part, they were busy, not there, or about to leave. So we did the next best thing and did home to home contacting. And we were very time efficient, effective, and busy. We ended up finding 25 new people to teach, gave out all the BOMs we could carry, shared a message about Jesus Christ, and set return appointments with all of them. We were able to really jumpstart this particular area that had few interested friends. By the end of the day, as we were walking home, we felt satisfied and successful for the work we were able to do. Now we just gotta go back the second time and make sure they are really interested.
Spiritual Thought:
Enos 1:12
And it came to pass that after I had prayed and labored with all diligence, the Lord said unto me: I will grant unto thee according to thy desires, because of thy faith.
Often times in our life we seek instant gratification for things. We seek to have quick solutions, easy situations, and leisure living. But one thing we forget about is there is no growth in easy. There may be comfort, but that sometimes means we are not becoming. I like the perspective of Enos, because as he says, after he prayed and LABORED with all DILIGENCE, the lord granted his desire because of his faith. So as we seek the Lord for his help, we need to remember first we must do all we can. And as we do our personal best, the Lord will grant unto us his help for our desires because of our faith. So this week, I invite you to do your personal best. Seek the Lord, with the intention of doing your personal best and watch how the hand of the Lord will be seen in your life. Anyways, thanks for all your support. Thanks for those who reach out and I'll do my best to respond.
Love from the Philippines
Hello Everyone! Another week down, lots more to go but we enjoying every bit! This week we had more exchanges with DLs and I was able to continue to learn from other missionaries. To the highlights of the week!
Crazy American:
This week we had an invitation to a dinner appointment, but this time it was Brother Nathan who is from our ward. Let's just say he's a nice guy but may be a little crazy. To set up the scene he is a "Military man" who has been effected by nuclear radiation. So he has good intentions but has lost his filter, and is not afraid to say anything. So we get there as a district, walk in to his house with smoke everywhere from the cooking, it's all good because nothing really was burnt, but he realizes he's made food for about 4 people. He goes running all around, throwing chips in bowls, salsa, and some cheese dip, hands the bowl to me and says, "Ya there you go" and continues to go crazy. At this point I'm trying to hold in the laughter as my district is asking me if this is normal American style dinner. And if this is what I will become when I am older. It was definitely an experience and we will never forget it.
Find joy in the little things:
This week I have been striving to stay positive through the little things. To make light of situations that are not ideal but staying positive no matter the outcome. Right now I am learning humble patience. Meaning understanding the needs of others, striving to help, and doing my personal best to lead by example even when there are obstacles. I have witnessed the outcome of these efforts which lead to a higher love to serving those you come in contact with. Even though there may be challenges, finding joy and enduring patiently is the best outcome. Anyways running out of time as always so stay safe and don't get your teeth knocked out! If you know you know-
Hello Everyone! Another one down! This week was one of the more average missionary weeks. We found, we taught, we gave, and we worked. To the highlights of the week!
Its hot:
So this week I realized it really is just hot here in the Philippines. Well I realized that the day I got here but this past week we really been feeling it. So ya we just went for it and got the buzz. Don't know if it really makes that much of a difference but so be it.
Work:
This week we have been helping our interested friends progress towards baptism. One thing that I really appreciate about Elder Katigbak is his teaching skills. He really knows how to teach to the needs of our Interested friends, ask inspired questions, and get them thinking. So this week we have been really focusing on the needs of the people we have been teaching to help them progress towards baptism. As a missionary there are so many things to learn each day. Between new questions asked each day, recieving new insights, learning new words (language), or just finding new insights from personal study. The mission is a place to really jumpstart da lifelong pursuit to becoming a better version of yourself.
Spiritual insight:
This week I have been thinking about the gift of agency. We all make choices everyday. These choices have two outcomes: good and bad. So as we really learn about agency we can find the power we have to choose to do good, be good, and think good despite challenges, hardships, and unexpected turbulence in life's rolercoaster. Everyone encounters these choices on a daily basis. From small to big choices little by little we can really learn to develop a character of being good despite the challenges life. So my invitation for you all is to be the good. Do good, learn to be patient, to endure with joy despite hardship, and I can promise you will draw the love of the savior into your life. You will feel of his love for you and you will see others with that same perspective. Well till next week-

Yo what is going on fam and friends! Hope all is well with you! This week went really well! We had lots of eventful things between meetings, zone council meeting, zone conference, interviews with President, exchanges with the AP'S, and the best part finding new people to make covenants with our Heavenly Father! To the highlights of the week-
Zone Conference:
We had such an awesome Zone Conference this week! It was all centered on the Easter season and the Atonement of Jesus Christ. President Fernandez really spoke profoundly about the importance of our understanding of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. He highlighted the ultimate love of the savior and his sacrifice for us. He invited us to deepen our understanding of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and what that really means for each and everyone of us. As missionaries he invited us to really ponder this and center our message on the Atonement of Jesus Christ. It was really great and what I needed to hear for this week!
Miracles Never Cease:
This week we have really been focusing our efforts on those who are progressing. One of the main concerns when I got here was our interested friends who attend church. Before I got here it was usually 0-2 depending on the week. With this challenge, it really makes it almost impossible to Baptize anyone. So this week we put it to the test. On top of all our other responsibilities we really focused on the needs of our Interested friends. And through obedience, faith, and hope we had 7 IP'S come to church! Not only was it really great they came, but it was also Easter Sunday. So what a great opportunity for them to really remember the Atonement/Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Anyways hope you all had a great week and remember miracles are real!

Hello Everyone! Had a crazy week with transfers. Let's just say things went in a way I was not expecting but I think we are going to have a good cycle. So I got transferred to Toledo and Elder Kwok will be staying in Lunas. It was a crazy surprise since Elder Kwok has been there for 3 cycles already and I was just new there. But we just going with the flow. Anyways to the highlights of the week!
Temple Trip:
So with the new transfers we got to go up to the city. Had the first MLC meeting which included going to the temple and doing an endowment session. It was the highlight of the week to have a temple session. The feeling of peace in the celestial room is always a highlight. But we had a good session followed by some meetings!
Second Mission President:
So we in the Toledo area which means I am now in my first ward here in the mission. This also means we have a Stake President and based on the title he is now are second mission president. So a little background about President Bautista, he is very involved with Missionary work. Which is a good thing, but it also means long phone calls, constant pressure, and new questions about stats/making a system for consistent numbers here in the zone. It is definitely adding more to do to the regular missionary work pressures. But I guess pressure just makes diamonds (while hopefully).
Spiritual Thought:
We got to watch conference this week at church. It was another highlight. One thing that stuck out to me was from Steven D Shumway "Performing gods work, we recieve the grace of god and are abilities will be magnified despite inadequacies." This message really hit home this week. With new changes, assignments, responsibility, on top of trying to just be a good missionary, sometimes it can be a little stressful. But despite the times of feeling inadequate we will recieve the grace of God and he will help us in our times of need. Especially being on the Lord's errand, he will always be there for us. We just have to trust in his plan and everything will work out for our good. Anyways, hope you all have a great week!

Hello Everyone,
Anotha one down! This week we had three more Baptisms for our group and we got more on the way soon. We were able to complete the Parents of the Rabanes family! It was super awesome to see there excitement in making the first covenant. I can see of there sincere desire to follow Jesus Christ and make this next step in there life. One thing I have learned here in this area is the impact of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I don't know how to describe it in words but it just brings a perfect hope to the people here no matter there circumstances. It is a gospel of joy, power, and message that really helps all. I have witnessed this first hand and can testify of its power. Well to the highlights of the week!
Exchanges:
We were rockin the exchanges this week with two different sets of Elders. Had a good time with both of them. Here in the mission you can always learn something new from other missionaries. Just as we teach people here it is equally important to get to know each other. As we develop relationships with the people we serve with, we strengthen our ability to love all. We can always find common ground with those who we serve with even if that common ground is the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Baptisms:
Always a good time to get back in the ocean! This week we went to a different place for our baptims which was pretty awesome. I baptized James who is 13 and really fell out of nowhere but progressed in 4 weeks and was baptized! We then completed the family (Renato and Genelyn)! Funny story, after I baptized James, he asked in Bisaya "Can I swim" but no time to respond he just went for it. Started swimming straight into shore. It was pretty darn funny. Then to make it better Renato who is 41 was baptized. And right after dives in the water as well. He then goes
straight into shore with one breath. Some things like these you just have to experience but it made for a good laugh.
Spiritual Thought:
This week I was thinking about how when good things are near temptations increase, challenges arise, and obstacles seem to come at you from nowhere. But, it is because like we are taught "there is opposition in all things." But when these challenges arise as we are guided by our living Prophet we need to think Celestial. As we keep our eye focused on eternal promises and focuses these little things will seem meaningless. But we have to continue with the faith, courage, and hope to overcome these things. And as we do, the wonderful blessings of good will be poured out upon you. Even in the times where it may seem hopeless, when good is near opposition will be encountered. It is normal, but even if it is not always easy, it will always be worth it in the end to do the right thing. God knows our thoughts, actions, and desires. The christlike attribute of Integrity comes into play. Doing the right thing even admidst pressure of others, differening opinions, and wants. But it is worth it because our Heavenly Father will reward us for all of our efforts. The church is true!
https://photos.app.goo.gl/YWtcbTXUp8FVwtBR7
What's good everyone! This week was another one of those weeks that just flew by. We have been hitting it hard trying to get in a few more Baptisms before the end of the cycle. So far we are looking on track to have three more next week! But anyways to the highlights of the week-
BIQs:
This week we had some more interviews for Baptisms. As a person with an assignment, you get to perform the Interviews. So I got to perform 5 interviews for a family from the Asturias area. It was super cool to feel of their desire to be Baptized and listen to their simple sincere testimonies of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They were more than ready and have a lot of faith given their circumstances in life. I'm very happy for them to continue on the Covenant path.
Lunas Special Group:
So we have been here in Lunas almost one cycle. The work here is going crazy leaving us with little to no time to not be doing something. In other words we always busy, which means things go by fast. So this week we had a ward Baptism out in our area. One of the part member families lives about 40 minutes away so they make the effort to come to church each week. So the one son was able to get Baptized on Sunday. But when it's a group we get to conduct, speak, teach second hour, conduct baptismal service, pray, baptize, and then run the family home evening. Never a dull moment to say the least. But it is the best! Some of the most humble, welcoming people around. So it is awesome to be assigned in a group even if the organization is a little hard sometimes.
Patience:
This week we have lot's of little things going on. Sometimes it feels like a lot to remember from specific invitations you gave people, to appointments, to interviews, but in all the middle you are just trying to do your best. So we need to have patience with others and ourselves along the way. As we strive to have patience, take a step back, and think celestial all of these things don't seem so big after all. So this week I invite you all to have a little more patience with yourself and others. Amping mo kanunay!
https://photos.app.goo.gl/YWtcbTXUp8FVwtBR7
Whats up everyone! We had another productive, fast week. We are having a good time striving to help our group progress and be built up to hopefully become a branch soon. We have been averaging 50+ people for the past few Sundays which has been the most we have seen here in the Lunas group. Anyways to the highlights of the week-
The "Crazy Nanay":
So this week we had came across two Nanay's who were riding next to us on the bus to our area. We were sitting right next to them so we started a conversation. Well turns out the one said she was a member who had been Baptized in Toledo. While I'm not gonna lie we didn't really believe her but she said her sister (who is not a member) wants us to visit them. So, we kinda went on with the next few days. While, on Friday we got off of the bus and see this Nanay walking. While it turns out it was her sister who wanted us to visit. So we follow this Nanay who is 82 about 30 minutes away to her house. We get there and begin to share about the Book of Mormon. She says to wait for a second and goes in and grabs a trifold of BOM/D&C/Pearl of Great Price with the signatures of multiple Elders from 2011. So we were shocked and made the connection of when her Baptism was. So now, we have found a member who was unaware of our special sacrament just 15 minutes away and her sister is interested. It was a crazy experience but was super cool to see the Lord leading us to his disciples.
The Dogs:
Okay so anyone who knows about the Philippines will tell you about all the stray dogs everywhere. It doesn't matter if you are province or city, there are always dogs. But to be honest I don't know if you should call them dogs or disease carrying carcasses that look like they should be dead but aren't. Just kidding but anyways they are everywhere. So the other day we stopped by at a Tindahan to buy a snack. We just chillin on the bench and all of a sudden 5 dogs come by. While lets just say one Female and the others were a little competitive. Anyways, I'll let you decide where to take that but anyways just some things in the Philippines you won't see anywhere else haha. Well we on the discussion of animals saw a little snake as well. We were looking at it and one of the Brads comes over to stomp on it. We like, "Okay big guy" well it got stuck to his foot, got flung up in the air about 4 feet, and then resulted in the guy running away a little bit. Well, it turns out he wasn't him after all. Another one of those random things.
Trust the Process:
Well, here in the mission we are always talking/teaching people about faith, hope, and trust. The best teachers are the ones who have experiences, gone through certain circumstances, and are relatable. Well, if you can talk the talk but not walk the walk then what's the point of teaching something you don't live. Well, here in the mission there are many lessons you learn. Whether humility in learning a new language, trust adapting to a new culture, faith in finding the elect, or even hope in finding joy in the little things. All of these many lessons I have learned here in the mission. Now just because you have learned something once, doesn't mean you are exempt from other learning opportunities. And often times these experiences are hard, difficult, but all growth comes from being pushed out of the comfort zone. To become means to be pushed, but to do so with joy and trust that build you into a stronger, more devoted follower of Jesus Christ. Well, find joy in the process and continue to become the best versions of yourselfs! Maningkamot kamo sa mahimo mas maayo kaugalingon mga versions
https://photos.app.goo.gl/YWtcbTXUp8FVwtBR7
Maayong Buntag sa tanan! Grabi, paspas jud sa kining semana og unta nindot jud para sa inyoha pud. Pero moadto ta sa highlights!
Baptism:
This week we had the Baptism of Sister Catherine and Sister Therese! It was so awesome to get them baptized. They have been taught by the missionaries for almost a year now and have never fully been fully committed to being Baptized. But, when I first got here we focused on them and were really straight forward to the point of why we need to be Baptized. And I guess it worked hahah but they are awesome and I am grateful to have been able to help them progress on their covenant path. We are hoping to have a few more by the end of the cycle so hopefully we can continue with this momentum.
Pray for:
Cherry Gemarino, Genelyn Derecho, Glenn Lawrence Gemarino, James Balbuena, Joanne Monieva, Renato Rabanes, and Zackie Rupal
The Bus:
So for our area we have to commute for about 40 minutes every day to the border of our area. The only problem is that the bus schedule is so unpredictable. So when a bus comes, there is no other choice but to get on even if there seems to be no room. While, here in the Philippines there is always room. So one day this week after our work, we saw a bus approaching after waiting for about 20 minutes. So we hopped on realizing the only space left was the steps leading into the bus. So yep, we got a nice ride hanging on the edge of the bus back to our house. It is always an adventure here in the Philippines wherever you go.
Spiritual Thought:
This week I was thinking about all of the different times that we could possibly have been born. At first it seems like a weird idea, but the more that I thought about it, the more I realized the amount of trust our Father in Heaven has for each and every one of us. It is a great privilege to be living in the last dispensation of fullness of times. There is no other time like it, and we have great work to accomplish. As a missionary, we are focused solely on helping others to progress towards making covenants. Often times there are challenges, obstacles, and temptations that work towards interfering with the work. But, as a disciple of Jesus Christ, once you realize your potential, the trust the Lord has for you, and your divine identity all of these little things become meaningless. You can continue to press forward with strong confidence that the Lord has reserved you for this specific time. He knows of your potential and wants you to seek his help. One thing that I really liked from our last zone conference was “When you are on the Lord's Errand, you are Entitled to his help!” What a great reminder that despite the challenges of life, whatever calling, work, or opportunity to building up the kingdom of God you have the right to God's help. So, this week, As you strive to do your personal best, ask the Lord with a sincere desire to help you. As you do this, he promises to help us fulfill whatever task we need to accomplish in his timing.
Anyways, thanks for all your support and the constant emails. Love from the Philippines-
What's good everyone! Wow what another fast week here in the Philippines. It's crazy how fast and slow and everything in the middle goes here in the mission. This week we had a really awesome week! We got to go to the temple, set two people on baptismal date, and find some of the elect waiting for the gospel. To the highlights of the week!
Temple Trip:
This week we had the opportunity to go to the Cebu Temple. It was so awesome! We were able to have zone conference one day and then the following day we had the temple/testimony meeting. It was a really great experience just to feel that peace in the temple. It really did feel like I was back at home for a little bit and was a really nice reminder of what our efforts lead too. We also had a great zone conference filled with new focuses here in the Cebu Mission. The main takeway is the work is hastening, we need to do our part, consecrate our time, and remember we are the ones who open the door to the celestial kingdom! It was a great two day conference! Also, we got to stay the night at the AP's house. Hot water! Sheesh that was crazy as well as a shower head. Just those little things you forgot about hahah crazy but it was so refreshing.
Lunas:
We in the jungle hahah. Are new area is about 40 minutes from our house pretty much in the middle of nowhere, but we got so much potential out there. The people are so humble, kind, and receptive to our message. We finally got through to two of our IP'S who have been taught by the missionaries for a long time, but they have committed to be Baptized next week. So as of now, if everything goes to plan, we got two Baptisms next week. It is awesome to see the hand of the Lord in the work and see people soften their hearts to accept the restored gospel. Also, we be working to find the elect. So far, we've found some pretty awesome people who look to have good potential here in Lunas. So hopefully we got them rolling on the lessons and have some more Baptisms soon.
Spiritual Thought:
This week when we were in the temple, I flipped to John 1 in the New Testament. My temple scripture is 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. Simple but a good reminder to share the light of christ. As missionaries we have the opportunity to share the message of the gospel, but what makes our message that much more personal is if the people can feel of the light of christ through our sincere testimonies, words, actions, and deeds. As we are worthy to have the spirit, our light will shine bright and the darkness can comprehended it not. So, my invitation to you is to share the light of christ. Live in a way that magnifys his love and you will feel the spirit magnify your efforts. You will feel of his love more complete as you strive to live this way. Well, thanks for all of your support! You guys are awesome! Till next week...
Yo! What's good everyone! Sheesh this week was absolutely crazy. We had a special dual mission conference with Cebu East with Elder Rasband! We had transfer calls! And we are know running a new special sacrament group! To the highlights of the week!
Elder Rasband Special Zone Con:
So this past week we had the special opportunity to have a Elder Rasband visit our mission. It was a really cool opportunity to hear an apostle of the Lord deliver a personal message to the missionaries. He even gave us a little sneak peak of his general conference talk for this upcoming April. I'll let you all find out in April... But before he gave his remarks, to my surprise I was asked to give a testimony in front of the missions. Usually I feel like they would tell you this in advance, but I lucked out to be the first one to share my testimony with 5 minutes notice. I always say this, but the mission has taught me one thing- To always be prepared! But that didn't shake the nerves out but I think it went okay haha. Anyways it was a super cool conference and so fun to see the batchmates from the MTC. Shoutout Batch #821
Transfer Calls:
WOW! This was a crazy transfer call with so many different things happening. I got transferred to Toledo Zone assigned in the Lunas area. We are about a 40 minute bus ride to our area everyday and are running a special sacrament out there. When I first found out my area I was happy expecting a Ward since Toledo is a stake. Sike! We be running the special sacrament again and this time my companion is Elder Kwock who is from Australia! He is one cycle behind me so I'm follow-up training him. So we are in for a treat this cycle because legit no one in our area speaks English. We are sucluded but nothing like jumping into the deep end to teach you how to swim. Anyways, I think this will be a very fruitful cycle filled with many miracles and seeing the help of the Lord in all aspects of missionary work. We are going to work hard this transfer and get some more Baptisms! Also another ocean Baptizing area
Spiritual Thought:
Mosiah 29: 20 But behold, he did deliver them because they did humble themselves before him; and because they cried mightily unto him he did deliver them out of bondage; and thus doth the Lord work with his power in all cases among the children of men, extending the arm of mercy towards them that put their trust in him
Yep that one hit home this week. Whenever we feel inadequate or are not sure if we can, we need to trust in the Lord. He is there for us, he knows of our needs, and will help is through our humility, faith, and trust in his plan. I think this scripture sums up challenges perfectly because it all works out through the Lord! We just need to trust in him and do our best! I hope you all have a great week and thanks for reaching out. I'll do my best to get back to you all!
Hello Everyone! Hope you all had a great week! What the sheesh, its already transfer week. This transfer has gone by so fast but we had another great week to most likely end the run here in MoalBoal. Anyways to the highlights of the week!
Miracle Moment:
So this week the sisters have been planning to have a Baptism for Nanay Cristina! She has been super prepared and ready to take the step to be Baptized and enter the covenant relationship with Heavenly Father. So yesterday we get a call in the morning from the sisters that said that she told them that she was not going to be going through with the Baptism that day because her husband has been having really bad PTSD (She needed to attend church, and the Baptism was going to take place later that day). The sisters asked if we would be able to come and give him a blessing. Well, we were supposed to teach the institute class that morning, but really felt the need that this was much more important. So we went as quickly as we could to their house to give Tatay a blessing. A little background on Tay is that he has never spoken when the missionaries have been there. He usually just lays in the house and doesn’t say anything. So when we got there, they were all outside sitting on a bench. We decided that the best thing to do was to give him a blessing of peace and comfort. My first thoughts were it would make sense for my Bisdak companion to give him the blessing, but it turns out he had other ideas. I ended up giving him a blessing, and man, I don’t have words to describe the feeling of peace, power, an indescribable feeling of comfort as I gave Tay the blessing. So after the blessing, we sat there for a little while while some tears were shed and Tay ended up deciding he would be joining us at church (also his first time going there). He then began to speak to us as he never had done in the past. So we were able to go to church, and he was able to be there the whole time with Nanay Cristina who was baptized later that day! It was truly a miracle and was an exceptional testament to me of the Priesthood power. What an incredible blessing it is to have the Priesthood here on the Earth allowing us to make covenants and receive these wonderful blessings.
The day I almost crapped my pants (wait what):
Okay so to say the least, I’ve been here in the Philippines for almost six months and have had no problems with the food in any sorts. From street foods, to balut, to barbeque chicken intestine, liver, squid, etc. Anyways, we were at one of my favorite Karenderia’s and I got my normal. Yutan and mongos which are both soups. I usually get them every night from here, so it's a typical choice. While, turns out something was wrong with the mongos, because it resulted in a upset stomach for the night. But that wasn’t the problem. So the next morning, I thought the bug was past and I ate my usual six eggs and sardines for breakfast. While, we got into our third teaching appointment for the day and that’s when I felt it. Ohh crap, litterally. While my companion was teaching about the Book of Mormon, I started to sweat bullets. He looked over at me like, what is wrong with you haha. But he got the gesture and we left quickly after. Luckily, we went up to one of our other Interested Friends house who luckily had running water. So the problem was avoided (fewf) except it was a little interesting using someone else's bathroom haha. Anyways never a dull moment and thank goodness no catastrophe!
Well maybe a little too much information but just keeping it real-
Hello Everyone! Hope you all had a great valentines day. This week was a pretty average week in the mission field. Had some good successes teaching and were able to find some more families to teach. Anyways to the highlights of the week.
Valentines Day Kiss
Well, I’ll start with the title of my email this week. Never would I have thought that this would be the title of my email, but let’s just get into the story. So, in our special sacrament group, we have two Nanay’s (Grandmas) who were recently baptized within the last two months. They are always with each other and we have started to call them the newest primary members of our special sacrament. Anyways, the newest member (Nanay Adelpha) stops by on Valentines evening around 8:00. At first we were confused why she was visiting but ends up she had a gift for each of us. She ended up giving each of us a random shirt and pair of pants. Most likely thrifted from one of the Ukay-Ukay stores (Similar to thrift store). It was very kind of her given her humble circumstances and really having no money but lets just say Fillipino sizes are not the same as the ones from America. The shirt she gave me was about to pop haha but its the thought that counts. She visited for a little bit, but really she is not supposed to be there because of our curfew hours. So we said our thanks and appreciated her gift. Then the unexpected happened. When she was saying goodbye, she first said it to Elder Artigo who was grabbed by the face and given a kiss on the cheek. Second goes Elder Malabanan with a similar experience, except he tries to avoid the kiss. This time making it worse because she overpowers him to get the kiss on the cheek again. Grabi man, Pastilan, its my turn. I accept defeat and just go with the flow ending up with a 70+ year old nanay with some missing teeth give me a kiss on the cheek. Harmless, but was not expecting this on Valentines day here in the Philippines.
Golden Compound:
This week we were doing some finding in the border of our area. I’m starting to feel like we have explored lots of the more common places in our area so we are getting creative in our finding approach. So we started off on a little trail where some people had recommended we check out. It ended up taking us to what I call the golden compound. We started talking with each of the families from house to house and it turns out they are all related. It was cool because they all were very kind, open to our message, and overall receptive to what we had to share. I think there is good potential with these families. Overall, there were about 35 people that we talked with here and good potential so hopefully next week we can start to tell if they are really interested in the church or just a tall American who has blonde hair haha.
Thought for the week:
Well lets just say the doctrine and covenants is legit GOATED towards missionary work. This week have been studying come follow me during personal study and reading along with the chapters. I want to share about Chapter 11 verse 21 which states:
“Seek not to declare my word, but first seek to obtain my word, and then shall your tongue be loosed; then, if you desire, you shall have my Spirit and my word, yea, the power of God unto the convincing of men.” This scripture is very personal to me because often as a missionary you sometimes wonder if you know enough. Or what if you can’t answer the question that someone asks. But, this verse brings about great peace to me because I know that as I seek and desire to know, than the spirit will do the rest. As long as we strive to do our personal best to learn, are diligent, and seek to obtain his word, we can know with confidence that we have enough. We know for ourselves and can have a humble confidence in our ability to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Anyways, there’s the highlights of the week! Thanks for your support and love!
Kumusta sa tanan! Hope everyone is doing well and enjoyed this past week. We had so much that happened this past week! So I'll start with the first story from the past week!
Zone Con/Mission Tour:
Well, mission tour complete and accomplished haha. It was an eventful couple of days but we made it through all well and motivated. My favorite points from President Fernandez was about our covenants that we have made. The fact that as missionaries we have made temple covenants of obedience. What a simple but profound message about how as missionaries we have promised through temple covenants with God to be obedient. He gave a great message! Then to follow was President Revello and Sister Revello. Their main points were the importance of inviting quite literally everyone to be baptized and attend church. Of course conversion is a gradual process but as we remember that the time is near of the saviors return, we need to hasten our work as missionaries. They also ended with some statistics about where we need to be as a mission in the next year. Let's just say it would be quite the big jump of about 1800 per year. At first I was a little surprised by the statistic compared to where we are now, but then I realized, lets do it. If we do and give everything we can do, everyday, we can and will be able to expect miracles from the Lord. This being one of the miracles we can expect. Overall, had a great experience and a great personal interview with President Revillo as well!
The day we almost died (not really):
Okay so lets get into the story. So we've all heard about the crazy mission stories and I always wondered if I would get to experience one while serving. Well, I think we got one. So this week on Friday we were doing finding in the Mountains. To say the least it was a pretty rural area (Bukid jud) sounds better than english (idk why). Anyways, we had some pretty good success and then it started to down pour. And what do you know, I forgot my umbrella at an interested friends house from 3 appointments ago. So, we found a waiting shed and were chilling for a lil bit. Fast forward to about 15 minutes later a truck pulls up with two guys. They just pull over, hop out, and are just sitting there across from us. We just ended up sitting there still because it was pooring rain. Fast forward about 5 minutes and another guy shows up with a machette type knife. We weren't too bothered until we realized people from the truck and the other guy were dead staring at eachother. For about 2 minutes of being uncomfortable the guy with the machette starts to walk back up the mountain. After about ten seconds we start walking back down. Then, my companion looks around and the guy is right on our back about 20 yards away coming towards us. We then book it! We ran for a good 5 minutes ending up at a random house. We ask the owner if we can come in and wait for a while. We then explained what had happened. We ended up being fine and no harm but I don't think I'll ever see my companion run that fast again haha. Anyways, I don't think we were in any harm more of just weird circumstances leading to a nice 5 minute run in pouring rain haha. Anyways, never a dull moment.
Well, thanks for all of the emails and I'll do my best to get back to you. As always, enjoy the next week and find the joy in the little things-
Hello Everyone! Hope you all had a great week! This week was definitely filled with all sorts of surprises from the highest of highs to some less fun things but everything is great haha! But we continue on working hard and learning from each experience.
I had a surprise call from President yesterday, and he scared me a little bit haha. He started conversation by saying,
"Hello Elder Pennock, is Elder Artigo with you"
Response, "Yes President"
President Fernandez, "Okay, can I talk with you privately"
Response, "Yes"...
President, "Elder Pennock, I have heard some things about you from the other Missionaries. Are you aware of these things?"
Response, "Uhh I'm not sure President, what did they say"
President, "Just kidding"
(sigh of relief haha)
President: "Elder Pennock, you have been selected to have a personal interview next week with President Revillio during the mission tour. I hope you have been preparing spiritually"
Response: " Sounds great President. Thank you"
Sheesh, surprise call with the President about gave me a heart attack haha. I didn't know what he meant at the beginning, but ends up he just likes to joke around haha. But overall he informed me that I, along with a few other missionaries, have been invited to meet with a member of the Area Presidency, Elder Revillio, this upcoming week! I'm not entirely sure what to expect, but I'm grateful for this rare opportunity to learn from a General Authority. I'll be sure to share more about my experience with you all soon.
This past week has been a great finding week for my companion, Elder Artigo, and me! We've been working diligently to find new friends, and the Lord has truly blessed our efforts. We met an amazing family who are eager to learn more about the gospel, and we've already had a few return appointments with them. We also had a great experience finding in a new area and finding several potential friends who are interested in hearing our message.
This week I want to focus my spiritual thought about the power and blessings that come from daily conversion. As a Missionary it is truly amazing to see the progression of interested friends and their desire to learn about the gospel. It is even better when they begin to live and apply the commitments we offer them. As for the rest of us, conversion is so much more than a one day thing. Rather a constant process of daily spiritual upliftment, repentance, and desire to become. Because ultimately our desire, diligence, and constant effort is how we become. It doesn't matter if we are not perfect, because everyone is just doing their best. So my invitation is to take 5-10 minutes every day for spiritual upliftment. Consistent, constant effort every day is how we become. So this week, I invite you to find those moments in your busy life to remember the Lord and learn of him.
Thanks for all your support!

What's good everyone! Crazy week full of miracles and success. Well I feel like I say this every week but it really is never a dull moment here on the mission. It was a super productive week full of finding, Family Home Evenings, and teaching about Jesus Christ. To the highlights of the week!
The 5 Million:
Well I'll jump right into the title of my email. This week we focused on expanding our teaching pool. It was a solid day of finding and we were successful. As we were finding we were in the mountains and came across this "Resort" under construction. It was pretty legit for being in the mountains. We then realized there were some people inside checking it out. And before we know it they are waving us over to them. We go over and start to ask a few questions. Then all of a sudden he says he's a famous YouTuber/Blogger here in the Philippines. We were a little optimistic at first but quickly believed it when he showed us his page. Before we know it they are filming us and ended up uploading the video to his channel/Facebook. Fast forward two days and we went viral with 5 Million views. Crazy day/experience but I think we set the new mission record for most finding in a day haha.
FHE:
This week we focused our efforts on the Palanas Family. They are progressing well and are going to get Baptized next week if everything continues to go well! We had a family home evening for them, well more family home afternoon because they don't have electricity. So we had it this week on Saturday. It was a blast and I think they really had a great time. We were able to share a message and have some games with all the Missionaries in our district. We had a good time and they really enjoyed it. The highlight was playing Chubby Bunny. For anyone who doesn't know, you add a marshmallow, say Chubby bunny, and then repeat until you can no longer speak haha. It was definitely a funny experience watching the Missionaries stuff their faces with marshmallows. We had a good time on Saturday and then they came to church on Sunday so it was all worth it!
Spiritual Thought:
This week I would like to focus my thoughts on enjoying the journey. Here in the mission I have learned to find joy in the small and simple things, to go with the flow of unpredictable situations, and to learn to just trust that everything will work out. But the thing is to learn to love the journey. Often people are so focused on the end goal that I think we forget to enjoy what's right in front of us. To take a minute, look around, and enjoy the things which we encounter. To know that for whatever the reason may be, we encounter these situations to refine us and learn/grow. Ultimately everything we learn is preparing us to return to our Heavenly Father. I am very grateful for the experience I am gaining here and hope this week whatever your journey may be, to look around and find joy in the small and simple things.
Well guys, that's all for this week and hope you all have a great week! Thanks for all of your emails and sorry if I can't get back for a week or two. Thanks-
January 20, 2025
Whats going on everyone! This week was crazy because we had transfers. It was pretty predictable but I stayed here in Dumunjug. I got a new companion Elder Artigo. Sad to say goodbye to Elder Rafisura but just part of the mission. Elder Artigo is from Mindanao so he's Bisdak (Fluent Bisaya speaker). Hes a great missionary similar to Elder Rafisura. But anyways to the highlights of the week-
Transfers:
We had the transfer call which is always fun. Feels more like the NBA draft. After the transfer call we had a chill night. The next morning Elder Rafisura was supposed to get picked up at 6:45 am. We then were awaken by Elder Rafisura at 4:00 saying the driver was outside. So little bit of a crazy goodbye but its all good. We are going to see eachother soon because we have a Mission Tour the first week of Febuary. We then found out Elder Rasband will be coming Febuary 25th for a combined mission devotional. Its going to be awesome and am really looking forward to it!
Miracles:
This week after transfers we had our real first day of work. I dont know what happened but it all of a sudden felt like the training wheels came off. It was a crazy cool experience to see the gift of tongues. I was able to teach, ask questions, understand, and really feel the power of that gift. It was really awesome! We then taught a lady unexpectadly looking for Brother Joseph. The place where we thought his house was was really another families. After figuring that out we then asked if we could share a short message. She agreed and then I started with the first lesson. As I was talking I didn't realize until after i finished but she had tears coming down her eyes. It was a cool experience to feel the spirit through the lesson.
Spiritual Thought:
The Lord really does love effort. It is maybe a concept that we are all familiar with but this week I wanted to emphasize it. The past 3 Months here in the Cebu mission have taught me so many things. But one thing is the miracles that come from exact obediene and hard work. Hard work is what I want to focus on. Learning a language is no easy task but a gradual proccess of constant effort. Through contless hours of study, practice, humility, and dedication it really does come. This week I felt I was able to reap my reward of consistent daily effort. The second way we show hard work in the mission field is through the missionary work itself. There are rules supposed to be followed and times to be out working. And many missionaries can be out of the house before 8:00 am, but whats the point if you don't get to work. I have learned the best way to see the hand of the Lord is by doing your personal best, giving forth your best effort, and then putting everything else in his hand. Because if we are doing our personal best, there is nothing else that can be asked of us. I can testify through this work ethic, then thats when you are able to find that holier and higher joy. Watching people draw unto Christ and really find there purpose is an undescribable feeling. Anyways, thanks for getting through the email!
Have a great week! Share your light!
January 12, 2025
Wow, time really goes by way to fast here on the mission! It's crazy this week I'll officially "graduate" my trainee days. This week we also said goodbye to Elder McCarthy who is legit such a sick bro. It was so fun to become such great friends with him and to know Australia is getting a stud back. Anyways just part of the mission life! To the highlights of the week-
Dumanjug Special Sacrament:
Well, here in the Philippines we got lots of work constantly. The area that I am in consists of a Branch and a Special Sacrament which is held in a waiting shed (Like a tropical pavilion). So luckily for the Missionaries we get to run the branch and the Special Sacrament, jkjk but sometimes it feels like that. This week we set up the Special Sacrament, the first counselor was late so I ended up conducting without a program (just go with the flow), and spoke. It was an eventful Sunday but luckily it was all worth it because we had interested friends show up.
Argao:
This week we had an in person YML meeting. Got to travel to Argao and meet with all the other district leaders and their companions in person. It was a crazy 1 and a half hour drive of real life Forza. Low key crazy but we made it again safe and sound. After the meeting we went to a pretty nice place for dinner and got some grub with a banana shake (shake made it worth the trip). Refocused and reemphasized the importance of our Zone Goals and the miracles that come from exact obedience. Once you understand that obedience is not there to limit what you can do but rather an opportunity to show your desire to follow, that's when the miracles come. The zone is really working on that right now and it's cool to see the miracles that come from that.
Osmania Peak:
Last P-Day after the email was sent got to do a sick hike. It was such a cool drive and crazy view at the top. The beauty of the Philippines is crazy. Definitely a check off of the to do list here!
Spiritual Thought:
This week been focusing on studying the Doctrine and Covenants. Wow it is packed full with so many verses applicable to Missionary work. One of my favorite verses from this week's study is chapter 18 verse 44, " And by your hands I will work a marvelous work among the children of men, unto the convincing of many of their sins, that they may come unto repentance, and that they may come unto the kingdom of my Father." The Lord has so much in store for each and every one of us. Being here on the mission, I have already learned how important it is to just trust in the Lord. Of course it is easier said than done, however through Faith and Hope in Jesus Christ, our burdens may become light. It is awesome to be able to see the hand of the Lord in the small and simple things here in the mission. I invite you all to look for those small and simple things each day, and to take a minute to recognize the help which you have received. Anyways, hope you all are enjoying the New Year and are keeping up the work on those New Year Resolutions!
My Story (continued)
January 6, 2024
Hello Everyone! Hope you are all doing well! It was another great week as a Missionary. And let's just say new years in the Philippines is an experience to be had. When it hits midnight I don't think it's possible to stay asleep haha. But to the highlights of the week-
Exchanges with the ZL's:
This week we got to do exchanges with the ZL'S (our old Kabalay/Housemates). It was pretty fun and a nice change of scenery from our area. Got to work with both Elder Valesco and Elder McCarthy who are both ballers. It was cool to see their perspective on the work and to learn from other Missionaries. We did some finding, visited members, and taught about Jesus Christ. It was a fun day and got to see how the work is progressing in all areas in the Cebu Mission. Shoutout to Elder McCarthy who leaves this cycle.
Teenagers:
This week we focused on finding in our area. The main takeway for us was the teenagers were super engaged in our message. We had multiple experiences where the Teenagers were locked in ready to learn about the Book of Mormon and asked great questions. It was cool to see how open they were to learning and praying that their parents let us come back to continue to teach them.
New Year:
Got to experience the New Years eve here in the Philippines. Imagine anything that makes the most noise and then combine all that at once. It was low key wild filled with fireworks, motorcycles revving their engines, horns, and all of the above. It was a wild night. Then New Years got to talk to the Fam and see my Igagaw (cousin) open her mission call. Shoutout to Elana soon to be Sister Giolas. Mongolia lucky to get a great Missionary.
Spiritual Thought:
So this week I've been thinking a lot about grace. It is a concept that sometimes is underlooked or even not emphasized enough. But was thinking about how sometimes we need to have patience/grace with ourselves, others, moments of frustration, etc. I think so often in life we are almost used to instant gratification that when something doesn't go as planned either from someone else or ourselves it can be easy to get frustrated. But that is when grace comes into play. To change our perspective and think that maybe they are just doing the best that they can, or I am doing the best I can changes the perspective on the things which we encounter.
Jacob 4:7:
Nevertheless, the Lord God showeth us our weakness that we may know that it is by his grace, and his great condescensions unto the children of men, that we have power to do these things.
So this week I invite you to have a little more grace. Remember to give others the same grace that the Savior allows us to have. Ultimately it is through his grace and mercy that we can be saved.
Thanks for all the emails! I'll do my best to get back to you!
December 29, 2024
Hello Everyone! Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and are enjoying the holidays. It is awesome to be a Missionary during the Christmas season because we get the opportunity to testify of christ everyday and really get to focus on the true meaning of the season. It is a happening time here in the Philippines during the holidays but always an adventure. To the highlights of the week-
Malipayon Pasko aka Christmas:
Christmas was a very eventful day full of fun moments. Started the day with talking to my family which was awesome. And then we had 4 meal appointments that day. Let's just say it was awesome but maybe just a little to much. The people here are so generous sacrificing there resources to feed us. It was a great day filled with meal appointment to meal appointment. Luckily we ended up walking from appointments to try and get a little more room for the next appointment. By the end of the day, I thought my companions stomach was going to explode but luckily he made it. It was a great day and definitely memorable.
Exchanges:
This week we had the opportunity to have exchanges. It was a crazy cool experience and we were able to learn so much. I ended up going with Elder Clark who is one cycle ahead of me. So we are both pretty fresh in the mission so it was a pretty cool experience. Our goal for the day was to just do finding. We decided to focus our efforts in two different areas. We ended up finding 16 new people to teach in one day with 8 lessons on the spot. And the best part was we were able to teach the entire day solely in Bisaya. It was a really cool experience and was a true testament of how having the spirit with you really is the most important factor in teaching. I'm sure we made mistakes throughout the day grammatically, but our message was still able to touch the hearts of the people we taught. And I can testify that throughout the lessons we taught, the spirit was so strong. One example from the day was when we taught Brother Kobe and Brother Clark. Two brothers that we came across and asked if we could straight up teach them there at their house. They agreed and we were able to teach them about the first principle of Lesson One. Following that, we decided to give them a Book of Mormon and testified of it's truthfulness. After which we invited them to pray and ask Heavenly Father if what we taught was true. And straight up he just immediately responded "Tinuod" which is true. And then we were overcome with such a strong spirit that I can't really explain in words. It was a really cool experience and overall awesome day of Missionary work.
Spiritual Thought:
This week I have been thinking a lot about the lessons that we learn here on Earth. Lots of the time it is so easy to be so focused on our worldy perspective that sometimes we forget about the lessons that we need to learn beyond our life here on this Earth. As President Nelson has taught repeatedly over his service as our Living Prophet, to think Celestial. It is really divine guidance because as we think celestial, ultimately it really brings great comfort to know that ultimately everything will work out. It may be hard, it may be good, but ultimately everything will ultimately turn out great for our eternal progression. Sometimes if we loose this perspective here on this Earth, that is when we can become our own worst enemy, but when we put our trust in God, there needs not to be any fear because he ultimately wants what's best for us as well. When we strive to do what's right, being faithful/hopeful in Jesus Christ and endure patiently God will make things works out. I know that to be true and am grateful for the lessons I am learning here on my mission. Hope everyone is well at home-
December 23, 2024
Maayong Buntag/Udto/Hapon/Gabii sa tanan. Hope everyone has had a great week. This week went by really fast full of busy Missionary work. We had lots of appointments with new people in our area. Currently we are in a transition period right now in our work where we have really been focused on finding. To the highlights of the week-
Compound Conference:
This week our landlord invited us to a special Christmas dinner at our neighbors house. We of course accepted because it was an opportunity to talk about Missionary work (also dinner appointment for 4 elders). We went out working for the day and upon our return realized that this was a fancy dinner. It ended up being pretty legit and a full catered meal with lechon baboy (lami gud=delicious). It was pretty nice and we had the opportunity to talk to a lot of our neighbors about the church and answer their questions that they had.
The Kabukiran Walk (Mountain):
We have been doing some exploring being in a new area and got to do some nice long walks this week. We ended up visiting one of our friends who lives up in the mountains. She is interested, receptive to our message, but just has a hard time keeping her commitment to come to church. It definitely is one of the biggest challenges in the new area having the church be farther than the previous areas but we continue on.
Christmas Branch Party:
This week with the Holidays coming up (it does not even feel like Christmas, where's the snow/cold haha) we had our branch Christmas party. It was full of excitement, fun, and entertainment through dancing. This Moalboal Branch likes to get to business in their dancing and it is pretty entertaining. We had some singing, dancing, and games that were fun to watch. We then were planning on food for after the games. It honestly was a miracle that we had enough because at the start of the party we had one pot of rice and two pans of meat for about 40 people. As time went on, more and more people showed up and they brought some kind of item to share resulting in enough food for everyone to go home busog (full).
Spiritual Thought: Well this week was another week filled with learning moments. Learning a language is definitely humbling and helps you to not rely upon your own strength but to constantly ask for the help of our Father in Heaven. But, ultimately that is one of the main focuses of a mission. To learn to turn to our Father in Heaven through our Savior Jesus Christ in our challenges. We experience hardship not to be punished or to go through something hard to just go through something hard, but to learn from it. We need to understand that sometimes we may not fully understand the reason for our challenges until after we have come out on the otherside. Ultimately everything here on this Earth is for our benefit, and whether we know what the reason for it be in this life or the next is known unto God. It is a principle of faith and hope through the savior Jesus Christ to trust in his plan. I definitely know with learning this language that I can not go about my days without the help of God, but I know that it is teaching me valuable lessons that will be beneficial to me in all aspects of life. Anyways, hope everyone has a great Christmas week and remembers the true meaning of Christmas. Jesus Christ lives and he truly is our strength.
Hope everyone is doing great and thank you for emailing me! I'm sorry if I don't get the chance to respond because of the time difference-
December 15, 2024
Yo what's up everyone! Crazy week that felt like we never had enough time in the day. But like at home, that's just what happens this time of year full of busy crazy days. Well we had our first Baptisms this week! It was awesome and our branch had 5. My companion and I had 3 which was so awesome. It was definitely worth all of the crazy days beforehand to reap the reward of bringing others to the gospel of Jesus Christ and helping them make their first covenant with God. To the highlights of the week...
Zone Conference:
Yep we had another zone Conference filled with Christmas festivities. It was a great zone Conference. We had an hour workshop to start off by President really focusing on our purpose as a Missionary. He emphasized a lot on the two action words in the mission purpose which is invite and help. He emphasized the point that lots of Missionaries think once they have "invited" they are done. But, the importance is to help others with their challenges, find the root cause of what's holding them back, and to strive to be the Missionary to support them through it. It was a great message to hear and reemphasize the reason why I am here serving my mission.
Cultural Dance:
After our workshop at Zone Conference, we had some Christmas fun here in the Philippines. Each of the districts put together a cultural dance to perform. Anyone who knows me knows the level at which I dance but it was a good time and we had some fun. Our district had a dance choreographed by Elder Malabanan. We of course got called to go first in front of 3 zones, but we got it done and it turned out pretty good. Join the google photos to check it out...
Celebrity Status:
Living here in Dumanjug is a little bit different then Moalboal. Elder Clark (my housemate) and I are the only white people here regularly. It makes the reactions of kids very entertaining. The best one this week was when we visited Sister Stephany. Her friends brother looks at me and says "Wow, your the one from the movies." It was pretty funny and all you got to do is give them a high five and they think they won the Loterary. The kids here are super awesome. Then as we were walking back to our apartment on Saturday, we came across a Christmas festival at the park by our house. We stopped by because there were tons of people. We ended up drawing more attention because there were two Americans than the entire Christmas show. A simple greeting and the people are absolutely surprised. People definitely recognize us and are always pleasantly surprised when we speak Bisaya.
Spiritual Thought:
This week I have been reviewing previous General Conference talks. I came across the talk "It Is Wisdom in the Lord That We Should Have the Book of Mormon" from President Mark L. Pace (Sunday School General President). It reemphasized the importance of the Book of Mormon and spiritual upliftment in a trying world. I liked this part "We call it “study,” and that’s good because it implies effort. But we don’t always need to learn some new fact. Sometimes reading the Book of Mormon is just about feeling connected to God today—nourishing the soul, being strengthened spiritually before heading out to face the world, or finding healing after a rough day out in the world." This emphasized the importance of daily scripture study. If there has been another thing I have learned here is how much good comes from the Book of Mormon. It really does bring spiritual upliftment and I can testify of it's power. I invite all of you this Christmas season to study it a little bit more. To seek to find strength and healing from the trials of the world.
Hope all is well, and like always...
Till next week
December 9, 2024
Hello Everyone! Hope everyone has had a great week! This week was a little crazy for the Moalboal district. We had transfer calls and let's just say everything got mixed up. We went from 8 Elders to 4 Elders and 2 Sisters. My compion and I got transferred to the Dumanjug apartment with our area being in Ronda. Not expecting a transfer on the first cycle, but if the Mission has taught me one thing, always be prepared for change and go with the flow. To the highlights of the week-
Last Day in Moalboal:
Well it was definitely a shock to be getting transferred! Was not expecting it on the first cycle but it is a chance for more growth and experiences. Luckily I am still with Elder Rafisura who is now our district leader. We had transfer calls at 4:00 which lasted for about an hour with announcements from our mission president. To go along with those announcements he said everyone will be getting there own phone next cycle and was pretty blunt regarding obedience/sending people home for misconduct. It was definitely a warning and will be interesting to see how the technology will affect our mission. Hopefully we can use it for good and looking forward to the future of the
mission with our current momentum. Also we have 4 Baptisms this week at the ocean! It will be super awesome to Baptize our friends and help them make their first step along the covenant path. Plus, we get to get in the ocean
District Conference:
Well this week we also had our district conference which allowed us to have interviews with President Fernandez. It was super nice to have a conversation with him and get to know him better. He is a super happy guy and always talks about how we should find joy in our mission. The best part is he expresses that with his own service by always being a super positive, happy guy while giving direction, guidance, and setting the standards for a successful mission. He talked a lot about that in his talk for district conference about the joy and happiness that we can find through the gospel of Jesus Christ. It was a great message. Quick side note to the night after district conference. We got a surprise visit by the office Elders who asked if they would be able stay the night (but not really asking). So yep, they stayed with 6 of them joining our apartment with 4 pads. Then, the AP's showed up... Dumanjug apartment was definitely a mission frat house with 12 Elders. We made it work, but like I said before, just going with the flow.
Spiritual Thought for the Week:
What is sacrifice? Sacrifice is an an expression of love, action, and desire that comes from you. It is a choice that comes with a no expectation of reward. In regards to my perspective, I have learned so much about sacrifice here in the Philippines. Each day I am humbled and at complete awe about how much these wonderful people sacrifice for their families, church, work, and love for others. It is truly amazing to see what true sacrifice is and reemphasizes that our joy is not defined by the circumstances of our lives and has everything to do with our attitude/intentions.
I am super excited to continue the next weeks in this area and progress the Ronda area. I know that the Gospel of Jesus Christ brings the higher and holier joy in our lives. Hope all is well with everyone at home! Till next week-

Kamusta mo sa tanan?!?
Hope everyone had a great thanksgiving week! Another week full of gratitude, humbling moments, and joy. This week went by pretty fast and it was solid. To the highlights of the week:
Thanksgiving:
Since we not in America, they don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in the Philippines. But, luckily it was our Branch President wife's birthday, so it basically was like a Thanksgiving feast for panihapon! We went over to their house and I don't think I have ever seen that much food. It consisted of Lechon Baboy (Roasted Pig), Fried Manok (Chicken), shrimp, Pancit (noodle dish), rice, cake, humba (pig blood dish), cookies, and brownies. It was definitely a feast to be remembered.
The 25 Kilometer Day:
While, here in the mission field, it is never a dull moment. We are always walking around our area finding while we teach, and teaching while we find. On Saturday we decided to make the journey back to the Kabukiran (Mountains). We learned our lesson the first time so we left our apartment at 7:00 am to try and beat the heat. If worked on the way up, and we got there in about 3 hours. We had a great lesson with Brother Roddell, and he was doing better from the previous accident. We also informed him that we would walk back down this time, because we didn't want his other hand to get broken haha. So we walked back down and it only took about an hour and a half because of the ease of downhill. We then continued our day to the opposite side of our area to make it a full day of walking, finding, and teaching!
Mountain Analogy:
As we were making the climb up the Mountain, I was thinking about how this is a great analogy to the challenges/new beginnings of various events in our lives. Thinking about this in terms of the perspective of a mission (but can be related to other events in life) often times when we first are met with new things, they seem daunting, tall, and maybe unbearable. At the start of the time here in the field, I was faced with culture shock, new living circumstances, new food, and a new language to be spoken. It seemed like a lot to take all at once. Like climbing any mountain, it takes time, preparation, and a desire to accomplish the climb. As we make our way up, you are faced with ups and downs but endure patiently with the goal in mind. Here on the mission, our goal is to first become personally converted unto the Lord, and then share that love with others. Keeping our purpose in mind is central to our happiness. There then becomes a point on the journey where you start to look around. You see the beauty of the mountain, you find yourself in a new place forgetting about your own struggles, and finding joy in the simple things. Here in the mission, if you only think about what you want, your own needs, the things you used to have, and the problems you are faced with you are not going to succeed. The point here is to find joy. You find joy by doing the Lord's work, not your own work. If you are solely focused on the needs of yourself you forget to see the journey surrounding you. So there's the thought for the day!
Testimony:

Well another week down out in the mission field. It was a great week! We had our first zone conference which was combined with the Talisay Zone. It was fun to see so many familiar faces from the MTC (Definitely the highlight of the week). We were able to share some familar stories and funny experiences with each other. It was a good zone con but supposedly not the normal. Our mission President has been having some health problems so he was not able to share with the zones what he usually would do. To the highlights of the week-
AP's Exchanges:
This week after zone conference we had the AP's stay the night at our balay (house). It was fun to have them here. They are pretty chill and have a good perspective on the importance of missionary work. They were supposed to do exchanges with the Zone Leaders, but we had a service project that morning planned out so we were all together. It was fun to spend the morning building a chicken koop, cutting down bamboo with a machete, and sweating a lot. This consisted for about 3 hours and then we went and got some paniudto (lunch). After that we went our seperate ways because they had to drive back to Cebu City which is about 5 hours with traffic. It was a solid day.
The Day I became a NBA Player:
Well, on Thursday this past week, we had the opportunity to go finding in Bugho. This area is farther away than our typical area which means their are almost no foreigners found there. As we are walking past the basketball courts there were a lot of kids congregated together. They see us from a distance and all start pointing at us. It was pretty funny as we were walking towards them because it is always a new experience in regards to kids reactions seeing me. We get there and they all start asking different questions. We talked for a little bit and then proceeded down a little path to a house. Little did we realize that they all started to follow us. As we were talking with a guy, we had about 15 kids behind us just staring in amazement. After leaving this house, they all followed us to the bukid. As we are walking, they ask my companion if I play for a NBA team. He responded yes and that I play for the Utah Jazz. So, in amazement they begin taking photos and watching us as we teach. It was a pretty funny experience seeing the kids so excited over an "NBA Player"
This week, I have been focusing my personal study on spiritual growth. After our night with the AP's I was talking with Elder Christofferson who became bisdak in 2 months (became fluent). He said one of the biggest factors for him was focusing on his spiritual growth during his time to study and then throughout the day, he would focus on the language as he was proselyting. I thought that was good advice. As we strive to focus on the Lord first, our challenges and struggles will be eased. We can gain a confidence in our insecurities as we strive to focus on the Lords will. We then can look with a eternal perspective on our challenges and know that this issues will only be momentarily. Whatever if may be, we can, and will overcome our concerns and weaknesses through the Lord.
Well, it was a good week here in the Philippines. Hope you are doing well, and thanks for all the support. I enjoy all of your messages! Till next week-
November 17, 2024
Kamusta mong tanan! Hope all is well with everyone at home. This week we had another great week with opportunities to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. It was full of ups and downs but that is the roller coaster of life. Anyways to the highlights of the week-
Jeepney Fun:
Anyone who knows about the Philippines knows about the mode of transportation. While lets just saw it is not the most friendly to the tall missionaries here. It consists of Tryke and Jeepney rides. The Tryke is a motorcycle (while more of a dirtbike) with a side cart attached to it. A jeepney is a mini school bus shrunk down to look like a truck with the bed extended with seats. While, they like to pack these vehicles full. Take full on public transportation in America and add 10 more people and thats what we're talking about. While, during these rides it always consists of Filipinos saying "Foreigner" "Gwapo" "Puti". It is funny because they think they are talking about me without me understanding, little do they know I get the main idea of what they are saying. Once I get the language down (bistak) it will be fun to respond to them with them in complete shock. Stay tuned...
Saavedra-
This week we did a lot of work in Saavedra area which is the South East part of our area. We had some great lessons and had one of our friends come to church! She was super interested and had heard about the Priesthood before. She recently has been not feeling well and asked if we could give her a blessing. We did, and after she had tears coming down the side of her face. She has a lot of potential and I am glad for her faith to ask for a blessing. She definitely felt the spirit and I hope she continues to feel of Gods love for her.
Exchanges:
This week we had the opportunity to do exchanges. I went with Elder Castillo who is our district leader. It was fun to see the different ways that missionaries approach missionary work. It was different from what I was used to do but a good change of scenery. We were in Dumanjug which is a newer area that was opened recently. Lots of work to be done there!
Spiritual Thought:
This past week I have been reading Divine Patterns by Roger Connors. It is an excellent book regarding faith, hope, and trust in the Lord through his patterns. This week one of the quotes that I found to be true and beneficial in all stages of life. Whether serving a mission, in school, working, managing the day to day activities of life, whatever it may be, it can be applied to you. "Everything will work out in the End. If it hasn't worked out yet- Its not the end." I really think that this quote gives a really good perspective on challenging situations. Sometimes we may wonder if it will ever truly work out. Will we be delivered from our trials, challenges, and tribulations. The answer is yes! Everything that we do ultimately will be for our good. To cross reference it to the talk from General Conference "Mortality Works". Ultimately our life here on Earth is to gain experience, and become more like our Father in Heaven. As the title of the talk says "Mortality Works" and once we understand that, I think it changes our viewpoint. Anyways, the mission is great. It really is a life changing experience and molds you into a better version of yourself.
Hope you all have a great week! Thanks for emailing me and like always, I'll do my best to respond. Till next week-
November 11, 2024
Wow, another week down! It has been another great week filled with many teaching opportunities, and opportunities for personal growth/learning. This week we had the opportunity to go to the outskirts of our area which allowed us to do some nice long walks. Luckily, it is still "cool" season even though it feels like 110 degrees haha. We are very busy and the work is progressing each day. To the highlights of the week-
The Half Marathon:
On Saturday this past week, we were going to visit one of our interested friends who had previously attended church that week. It was going to be a great opportunity to teach another lesson hopefully progressing towards a Baptism date. The only downside of this visit is it is about a 3 hour walk up the Mountain to his balay (house). So we got up, had some Pamahaw (Breakfast) and began our journey. We began at 8:00. Quick side note, here in the Cebu Mission they like us to be out of our apartment at 8 am. That was one of the unexpected surprises upon my arrival in the field thinking we would have time for personal study, companionship study, and language study in the morning. Well, they like you to get up, get ready, and leave the house at 8 for a nice long day of contacting, teaching, and repeating. Okay back to the story. So we began the climb, walking through half paved roads, the jungle, construction zones, and more tropical terrain. One of the most surprising things of our travel was my companions speed. I always thought that my long legs would require me to slow down but he ended up making me speed up the whole way their. So, we finally made it! We had a great lesson and our friend offered to take us down on his motorcycle/dirtbike. My companion agreed and promised it would be safe. Well, of course 5 minutes later into our descent we were going around a corner. Out of nowhere, a teenage girl comes up on her motorcycle, out of control, boom! We collide resulting in a crash. Luckily no one was seriously injured but our friend broke 3 fingers pretty bad. So, we are praying that he recovers quickly because he works construction and needs his hands. Safe to say that we will no longer be accepting rides from motorcycles.
The Pastor:
Well another funny story for the week is the discussion we had with the Pastor of the Resurrection Church. We were walking to our next appointment and we came accross this church. My companion said that we should go in and talk to the pastor. Well, that lead to a nice 45 minute lesson of him teaching us about Gods plan of economics. It was a pretty confusing and Intriguing plan, but man was it lost. It reminded me of the time when the fulness of truth was not restored on the Earth. It made me very grateful for the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the knowledge of the Plan of Salvation (Not economics).
Learning a language:
Final story for the week/spiritual thought in regards to learning a language. It is challenging, rewarding, humbling, and all of the above. I was talking to Elder Clark this week (he has been here one transfer longer than i have) and he asked me if I believe God is all powerful. I said yes, and he continued on. He said "Well if God is all powerful, he could make you fluent right now. But, unfortunately that is probably not our plan." I thought that that was a really good perspective to have. In life we are all faced with different challenges ranging in various ways and degrees. We need to remember that although it is hard, challenging, difficult, ultimately that is what refines us. We have to learn to depend on the will of the Lord. The sooner we align our will with his, the sooner we find the joy, peace, and hope. It may be hard to not ask why. Instead of asking why, ask what? What do you want me to learn? What do I need to do to get over this challenge? What can I do to allign my will with yours? Once we ask what, we will slowly begin to understand the reason behind our challenges. Everything that we do here on this Earth ultimately should be refining us. Helping us to become the best versions of ourselves. We can not do that if we don't have hardships. If it was easy, there would be no gain, no growth, no learning.
Well, the opportunity to serve each day is such a great blessing. It allows me to rely upon the Savior, draw nearer unto him, and understand where true joy comes from. Thank you for those who have reached out! I will do my best to respond, but it may be a week late with the time change/ availability to respond on P-Day. Hope all is well-

November 3, 2024
Maayong buntag/udto/hapon/gabii or in others words whatever time it is when you read this haha. Well we made it another week which was filled with many adventures, miracles, and opportunities to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. We had a great opportunity to meet 23 new Interested Friends and giving a BOM to each of them. We also had 4 people come to Simbahan (Church) and put one sister on a Baptism date. The Lords work is hastening here in the Philippines! To the highlights of the week-
The Average Day in the Field:
This week started out with long days of walking, ayo ayoing people's doors (like knocking doors here in the Philippines), meeting new friends, and having follow up appointments. The farthest we walked this week was probably 10ish miles to the furthest part of our area but it was great because we met some new friends, visited a less active member, and got our excercise in to walk off all the rice. Everyone here in the Philippines is so open to talking about Jesus Christ and will invite you to sit down as you share a message with them.
Average Interaction:
Well, like before when we talk to the people here they always have the same questions. "Do you speak Bisaya? Where are you from? How long have you been here? How old are you?" Well to their surprise I respond, Nagkat-on palong (still learning), Taga Salt Lake City, Utah Ko, Duha Semana (2 Weeks/ Well about), and 18. But before we get to how long ive been here my companion likes them to guess how long they think I have been. To my surprise, the shortest amount of time is 3 years and the longest is 10 years. I don't know if that is a compliment or they are just being nice in terms of my Bisaya haha. The people here are so great and I look forward to progressing in the langauage to better understand them and to share the wonderful message of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Food:
Well this week I was able to immerse myself in the Filipino culture. From Balut, to Budbud, to Sticky Rice, to Egg Cream Pie, to Bukko, and so on. Well to say the least, balut was not my favorite. It is honestly not as bad as the picture makes it look but I would not choose to eat it over scrambled eggs haha. But everything else is Lami Kaayo (Very delicious).
Water Outage:
And to end the week in average Filipino way, our water pump broke. So we have been out of water the last few days here. That means walking to the water tank, filling up our buckets with the tabo, walking back to our apartment, and using the water to shower/ CR. It is nice and convenient haha so got to hand wash some clothing out by the tank this week and carry the water in after a long day to shower. Life is good here and I am learning to find joy in the simple things.
Spiritual Thought (I know, sorry the email is long but this is the best part):
This week I have been reading in 2nd Nephi. One of my favourite parts of this section is the simple but so powerful phrase, "I am he; yea, I am he that comforteth you" 2 Nephi 8:12. This scripture is so simple but brings great peace to each of us. Jesus Christ is him, he always has been and always will be. He has the power to comfort us in our most trying times. He knows of our sorrows, afflictions, temptations, but brings us peace. He has already walked where we have walked and is willing to carry us out of our sorrows. He is our strength and brings each of us the comfort we need in whatever that may be. I am so grateful for the knowledge of the gospel and grateful for the opportunity to share this message. Well, until next week- Thanks for reaching out and look forward to hearing from you,

Kumusta ka! WOW what a week. I made it to the field and lets just say that I have never been more humbled in my life. I think that I have I have never been more shocked, amazed, and grateful. To the highlights of the week:
The MTC Goodbye:
The beginning of the week we had our final classes, worshops, and preparation for going into the field. I am so greatful for the experiences I had at the MTC and know that I have already made so many wonderful friends. I think it is so awesome how close you can get to a group of people in 6 weeks. It was a memorable goodbye but I was ready to get to the field... well so I thought haha. It will be awesome to see my MTC friends after the two years and speak Cebuano to them. I look forward to our reunion. Well to the field
The Filipino People:
The people here are so amazing! They have such strong faith, courage, and resilience in regards to life. They are all open to talking about Jesus Christ and have a desire to follow him. I am so amazed how kind and sincere the people are here. Although I can not understand them yet, I can tell of their love of Jesus Christ. I look forward to contributing on lessons soon and will be so grateful when I can teach of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the peace/hope it brings.
Moalboal:
This is the name of my first area! It is very pretty, rural, has the jungle, and the ocean. With this comes the pests of insects and bugs which is not great but we are getting used to them. I am currently living with the Zone Leaders and we are in the same branch. It is cool to see the perspective of them from the otherside of the mission and to see how they have progressed over their two years. It is definitely a big adjustment compared to back home but I know the Lord will make my weak things become strong. It is a sacrifice to be here and this week has definitely had me asking why I am here? Do I really need to be here? Will I make a difference? After thinking about this I had a undeniable asurety that this is the place I need to be. It is definitely going to be hard, challenging, overwhelming, but there are going to be so many more moments of happiness, joy, hope, and love for this place. I know that missions are meant to be hard, and I am so very grateful to be out here learning of the attributes of Christ, and seeing the progression in myself. I look forward to continue inviting these wonderful people to the Restored Gospel and seeing the Joy that they feel. Well, tell next week! Look forward to hearing from you and sorry if I am unable to respond. We share a phone out in the field- Salamat Kaayo!

Kumusta KA talaan!
Hope everyone is doing great! This week was pretty chill with not to much going on. We did have the opportunity to watch conference which was so good! We also got a new batch of Elders and Sisters. It was nice for a few days to have so few of people here but it didn't last for long. 100 new people came in but we are officially the "oldest" people at the MTC. Anyways, to the highlights of the week-
General Conference:
It was so cool to have the opportunity to listen and watch general conference in the MTC. As I listened to the messages I reflected on the questions and thoughts I had regarding serving a mission, being a christ like example, and striving towards becoming. It is amazing to see so many questions answered and really be able to see the hand of the Lord in all things. One of my favorite talks was by Brad Wilcox. It was really cool to see the love and trust the Lord has in all of us. I loved the call to action that we are expected and responsible to live differently. It's cool as a missionary because I am set apart to be different but what a great opportunity everyone at home has to set the example, be different, and invite to the Church of Joy. Anyways for anyone who did not get a chance to listen, I invite you to do so. Even if you did listen, go back and study, look for the savior Jesus Christ, and ask questions! You will and can find the answer. Always onto the next...
The new batch:
Being the "oldest" people here at the MTC comes with a little bit more fun and often opportunity for some pranks. Let's just say it is nothing harming or disruptive to the purpose as missionaries, rather a faster transition to the culture. Elder Wolford says it best so here is his version of the prank-
"Another great thing is that the new batch knows nothing about the Manila MTC, and they trust everything we say...
....sooo me, Elder Pennock, Elder Sakaguchi, and Elder Nicolas all decided to mess with the new missionaries. In the MTC there is something called SYL "Speak Your Language" and this is when you completely turn your focus from preach my gospel, to learning the language.
Everyone coming to the Philippines always worries about wiping with their hand. Which is true that eventually we will all be wiping with our hand, but in the MTC they supply toilet paper to everyone. So....I thought it was a bright idea to start telling all of the new batch that when you start SYL week, the MTC staff takes all your toilet paper, and you have to start using the sink and your hand.
After we told the first person, completely lying to them, we just went with it. We have been telling/"lying" to everyone about the horror we have to go through sense we are in SYL. We have absolutely been selling our pitch. And have only been fist bumping with our right hands. Everyone we have told believes it and it has been spreading like wildfire. (After an interaction with some of the Elders, they went and put on hand sanitizer right after we told them about our "no toilet paper situation".) We have had multiple random Elders and Sisters come up to us and ask us if it really is true. It's hilarious, and we have been holding composure through it all.
All this being said, we can't be all bark with no bite. So we are planning next week before we leave to break into every room while the Elders are in class and taking the toilet paper and putting it all in the maintenence closet. I'm pretty sure we are the funniest people to exist.
Everyone is going to be starting their hand wiping journey a little early."
We'll see how this one goes but hopefully they can all take a joke
Not to much else going on. Just getting ready for the last week here in the MTC. I most likely won't be writing next week, but will send an email when I get to the mission field. Will hopefully have some more stories to tell. I love this gospel and am so grateful for the opportunity to be on the Lords errand. If anyone is thinking about serving, I would highly recommend and know it is one of the best decisions yet! Anyways hope everyone has a great week and I'll see you again soon from Cebu!

Kumusta! Hope everyone is doing well back at home. I can't believe that it has already been another week! This week consisted of SYL (Speak your Languge) which is the immersion process here at the MTC. We have had a good time going through a series of understanding minimal words and phrases, learning, being challenged, understanding new words, and definitely not understanding a thing. It has been cool to see the power of the gift of tongues here at the MTC. To the highlights of the week...
PS: Would talk about Conference but we will listen to it this upcoming weekend. Time difference and MTC schedule
Pasaylo(sorry) for the long email, for quick reads:
Story 1 Living Conditions
Story 2 Funny
Story 3 Spiritual
The brutal truth:
It all began with the news of Cebu. Twas the Monday of Ocktobre and the friend of Saint Nic called. With a little taste of Cebu he delivered the news. Was it scary, well maybe a little. Who knew with such might a little bite. But to surprise it was quite slight. Alright that's about all I got haha. So we were able to get the insights about the mission life in Cebu. My companions buddy left the batch before we got to the MTC. He was able to message him the other day regarding the living conditions, language, and bathroom situation. And for anyone who knows me, they know that I'm not a germaphobe anyways he sent a video regarding their apartment, beds, dishes, etc. Let's just say that it ain't like home. Also, he confirmed the bathroom situation. I hope this isn't to much to put in a missionary email haha but for those who don't know, here in the Philippines you can get used to using your left hand. Yep you heard it, just a little water, splash around, and get to business. Apparently all the natives here claim it is more sanitary so stay tuned for 2 more weeks. Anyways, I have a point and am not rambling about this for no reason. I think it is cool as I was able to reflect, pray, and come to understand that my weaknesses can be strengthened from the Lord. If you were to tell me 1 year ago what my life would become for the following years I probably would think you are full of crap. Quite literally, pasaylo pasaylo (sorry). Anyways as I have thought about the opportunity and privilege that it is for me to serve the Lord, what I thought for me would make me feel incapable, not possible, or quite disgusted now makes me think of how privileged and honored to be here. I have come to see that the hand of the Lord is in every aspect. He makes our weaknesses strengths and helps us to overcome our concerns.
The waffle competition:
This week we were challenged to a waffle earing competition by the Amulek district. The rules went as followed:
1. Start time 7:30 am
2. 6 People per team
3. Must eat entire waffle or else it does not count
4. End time 8:00 am
We were feeling confident knowing that we had elder Zimanyiwa who previously downed 50 rolls. Unfortunately, he decided to tell us that morning that he didn't like waffles and would not participate. We ended up having Sister Smith join us. Let's say we got creamed loosing 18 waffles by our district to 36 by Amulek. Elder Kalgaria from Papua New Guinea was MVP eating 10 waffles. This kid can eat and was washing it down with a fish and some eggs.
Spiritual Thought:
I was reading in Ether this week and came across the chapter regarding the Brother of Jared. He was commanded to build a barge to cross the ocean to the promised land. Fast forward, the part that stuck out to me was when the Lord commanded him to "Go to Work and Build." Sometimes in life we do not know how. We feel inadequate, incapable, inhibited from the things we desire to accomplish. Sometimes the only approach is to get to work and build. When life comes at you with what seems impossible, the best thing to do is get to work. As we seek the will and help of the Lord, he can and will help you. He is there in every aspect of our lives. Sometimes we just have to take the step and get go work.
Anyways sorry for the long email, the MTC is going well. The work here is surely to be amazing and I am so grateful for this opportunity. I hope you are all well and thank you for reaching out to me. With the time difference I will try and respond to you but it may not be till the following week.
October 1, 2024
Kumusta KA!?
Hope everyone had a great week. I am officially past the half way mark for the MTC. This week marks the first full week of language learning. And to say the least, it is humbling, difficult, rewarding, and definately testing my patience. Through the week we have had a few different highlights.
Sunday Sacrament Meeting:
This week we had the opportunity to give a few priesthood blessings. Various people have had hardships while being in the MTC. One of the Elders in my room has been having a hard time. He has been having some challenges back at home that have been making him doubt his decision to serve. We were able to give him a blessing on Saturday night for peace and comfort. The next day we had what I think was one of the best sacrament meetings I have been to. The talks were given by President Esmundo and his wife. It was directed about challenges and hardships that were going on in the field, back at home, and fears regarding serving a mission. They continued on saying that the Lord blesses those more than comprehendable who have trying circumstances. Sister Esmundo shared that although serving can be scary, hard, and challenging that the Lord will strengthen you. He will bless you and your circumstances back at home/in the field and knows of your sacrafices. I knew that this meeting was directed to the Elder in our room and was exactly what he needed to hear.
Soccer:
During our excercise at night we have been playing a lot of basketball. We have been balling and getting pretty good. One thing about the MTC is that they originally said that they do not allow soccer to be played here. This week though, all of a sudden during our excericse time, two Elders (One from Vietnam and one from Ghana) were playing. I went over and started to play with them. It was definately nice to get some touches after playing for so many years. It was a tender mercy and I was grateful for the opportunity to play the game that I love. Also funny side note. As we began playing more Elders began to come over. Most of them were from Africa and they asked me if I was really from America. They wanted to know how I was able to have so much control and if Amercians really played soccer haha. I explained that it takes time and I have been playing for just a few years
- Temple
We had the opportunity to go to the temple this week again. We were able to do sealings which was my first time. It was a good experience and I was able to feel the joy which those who were being sealed to there families felt. We also had the opportunity to do baptisms as well. That was a little bit of a funny experience because it is such a small font. Elder Wolford and I are both around the same height and the font is very small. Also here in the Philippines the temple clothing sizes are very different than in America. We tried an XL but it ended up going all the way up to our knees. I guess here in the Philippines it doesn't get any longer until 6XL but they were out of those so we both ended up wearing 8XL jumpsuits. To say the least it could have fit three people wide but we made it work. It was still a good experience just a little funny since our district was either in 8XL size jumpsuits or the opposite with their jumpsuits up to their knees.
Food:
Had some squid this week( not terrible)
Pig Leg (Not my favorite)
Quale Eggs (Pretty good)
Anyways we are having a good time here. I'm grateful for the experiences I am having and am excited to get into the field. I know that missions are challenging in all sorts of ways but it is through these experiences that we can be strengthened and put our trust in the Lord.

Kumusta sa Tanan!
Hope you all had a great week. This week went by super fast and we were able to have some cool experiences. We began some language training and learned how to say a basic prayer. It definitely is going to take some time to get down but like anything it requires practice and diligence.
Food:
The food here is pretty good. It basically consists of rice, a mystery meat, and vegetables. The joke here is your lucky if your meat is 50% edible and the other 50% bone. Getting used to it but it is definitely a little more work getting to the meat. The food highlight of the week for my district was pasta. A little taste of home compared to all of the previous meals of mystery.
Temple:
We got to go to the temple twice this week! It was cool to go to the Manilla Temple and feel the same spirit as the temple back at home. It was a cool experience and I love seeing the celestial room of various temples.
New Zealanders:
At the MTC we have a few guys from New Zealand. They have the best accents and love coming up to our batch. It always starts with "What's up my brothers." They like to have a lot of fun and challenge people for different things. Elder Zimanyiwa in my district was challenged to beat the record for most rolls eaten in 1 sitting. The current record was held by Elder Ross at 38. Elder Z took on the challenge last night. He ended up eating 50 rolls in one sitting. They were baffled and claim to do it tomorrow. We'll see how that goes...
Spiritual Thought:
This week during personal Study I was reading a talk regarding being in tune with the spirit. As a missionary it is important to be in tune and listen to the promptings to best teach are interested friends. As I was reading I came across the section which states "You're ability to invite and recognise the promptings of the spirit will develop a step at a time. Becoming more attuned to the language of the spirit is like learning another language. It is a gradual process that requires diligent, patient effort." This really stuck out to me as we began some basic language learning. I know that as we strive to be in tune with the spirit, just like learning a language, it requires patience and a diligent effort.
I know this work is true and I am glad to be apart of it.
Love you all,

Synopsis of the Week:
What's up everyone! Wow what a week it has been. It feels like I have been here for a month already but at the same time it has only been a week. First off it has been so humbling to meet so many different people from all around the world. Here at the MTC we currently have missionaries who are from 20 varying countries. From Zimbabwe to Pakistan to Brazil to Canada to Tonga. Let's say that I am getting used to not understand what people are saying. I have heard more varying languages and met so many amazing people in the last week than I ever have before. It is amazing to me that the gospel of Jesus Christ has touched and continues to reach the hearts of the world.
Stories
The hotel-
When we got to the Philippines, we arrived in Manilla at 5 am after leaving San Francisco the day before at 12:55 am. Essentially I skipped a day with the flight time and time difference. It was a long flight but we made it through. After our arrival we then got in van's that would take us to the hotel. We arrived after one of the craziest driving experiences ever. Here in the Philippines you just drive, signal, get over even if there is a car, honk, and get within a few inches of the car behind you and to the side of you. I wish I had a video but it was crazy. Once we made it too the hotel we were placed in a room and would have to wait till 2 pm to check in. They took our passports and told us that we were not allowed to leave. Let's just say a 14 hour flight and 8 hours in a conference room can bond a group of anyone together. It was a long day of travel but my batch was able get really close with each other.
MTC-
We made it to the MTC. The spirit and power found here is exceptional. My testimony has grown so much as I've learned and heard the experiences of others. Through workshops, devotions, and classes I have truly been able to see the profound effect that the gospel of Jesus Christ can have on others. My companion is from Vegas and he is an awesome dude. We definitely have a lot of fun and he is the guy that makes everyone laugh. We are able to have fun and have strong spiritual experiences.
Spiritual Experience:
When we got our districts, there was an Elder from Zimbabwe (Elder Zimanewa). I then remembered that Elder England from my ward was serving there and asked if he knew him. With a surprised face and great joy he explained that he was great friends with him. He was in disbelief because coming from so far away he did not know hardly anyone. We were able to make the connection and he was thrilled to know that we had a common friend. It was a testimony to me that God places people in our lives to help us feel and to know that we are in the right place. God is mindful of our situation and is able to comfort us through tender mercies.
I could go on and on but it is awesome being here in the MTC. The spirit is strong, the work is hastening, and it is humbling to hear the experiences of others. I am grateful for this opportunity to serve the Lord and know that it is the best thing I could be doing in my life. I hope everyone back home is doing well and I'm grateful to those of you who have reached out. Please keep doing so! Love you all,
